Book Review: Dear Ijeawele!
If you’ve ever wondered what real feminism means, not the watered-down, misunderstood version floating around on Instagram or the performative narratives people throw around, these two short yet impactful books are the place to start. Both these books are less than 100 pages but they hold the kind of truth that many spend their whole lives avoiding. Every man and woman should read them, not just to understand feminism, but to understand why it matters. Feminism isn’t a threat. It’s not an attack. It’s not about hating men or glorifying women. It’s about fairness. It’s about humanity. It’s about dignity. It’s also heartbreaking that the idea of masculinity has been boxed into being “strong”-physically and emotionally. But why? Why can’t men cry? Why does emotional expression threaten their identity? Why is it seen as a weakness? Why is it that when a woman pays for a date, it bruises someone’s ego? Why does a woman have to earn less than a man to be treated well? Why is a man who smokes seen as careless, while a woman who smokes is seen as “characterless”? Last I checked, we all had lungs. The problem is deeper than just culture, it’s in the roles and expectations that have been blindly handed down for generations. The restrictions, the labels, the rules? Manmade. And they’re slowly suffocating the beautiful, complex, emotional beings we are all born as. We owe it to the next generation to do better. To stop feeding them outdated ideals masked as tradition. To raise better humans, not just better boys or better girls, but better people. And in a time when empathy, equity, and understanding are more necessary than ever, these are books that everyone, regardless of gender should read.

A must-read!
For anyone who finds feminist texts difficult, but still want to read them, this is the book for you. It is also for anyone who thinks feminism may be irrational or impossible. This book touches on many feminist aspects and is written in the simplest of words. It's also very short, under a 100 pages. I highly recommend this book if you think equality is important. I recommend it even more, if you don't believe in equality. As for Amazon's service, this book was delivered in time, was of good quality and a cheap price!

Very good and a very easy read
This book is actually an essay written in the form of a letter. But don't be put off by the term essay. Because this is neither long nor difficult to read. However, it carries a wealth of practical advice. I feel this should be read by every person irrespective of gender so that they can impart this knowledge to young girls who are growing up. Honestly I wish I knew this while I was growing up. Would have changed my life.

to anyone who liked we should all be femenist must read this one too
Her friend Ijeawele wrote her a letter to take advice on how to raise her little baby girl as a feminist, to which the author has given 15 suggestions to her friend. She not only gives her parental advice on how to raise her little daughter as a feminist but also gives her advice on what is right and what is wrong, for instance, she should never thank her husband for changing the nappy because it is his job too. There are many things that the author said in this book was ugly but that is the thing about truth, they are mostly ugly. What hit me hard was when the author said "if you criticize X in man but do not criticize X in a woman then you don't have a problem with X you have a problem with that woman. I recently read her work we should all be Feminists and I was inspired by her words, I have to check out this book to see what all points are left that I need to jot down immediately. Adichie went down to the mall, she saw a pattern made by our beloved society, where girls are supposed to wear pink, look pretty and play with dolls and boys wear blue and play with cars, what if a girl likes to wear blue and play with a car or a boy likes the colour pink and play with dolls? I am pretty sure those judgemental eyes will stoop so low to judge a child. Adichie did not finish at that, she also talks about adolescence, author, Adichie is from Nigeria, which is still a male-centric society, she warns Ijewele to never make her kid feel that marriage is some sort of achievement. Adichie questions, when we started treating marriage as an achievement for girls, we teach them that marriage is everything but we don't teach the boys the same thing. Why is that? I am going to explore more of her work, I love the writing style. I would recommend this book to every parent who wants to raise their kid feminist as well as to all the teenagers. Repeat after me I matter. I matter equally. Not “if only”. Not “as long as.” I matter equally. Full stop.

This is a very fabulous book which is reasonable. This is a worthwhile non-fiction book to keep and read. It is a must have. It is apt for both men and women to read. So, go for it, you will not regret. 💖🌸💯
