Use It Anywhere Without Cord Annoyance
Works great on shrink tubing when making wire connectors. Heat is great and right now. The fact that it part of their 20v systems makes batteries interchangeable. It is a lot better than power cords or an open flame. Some may not like that it put out little fan blow.

Very handy addition to 20V XR tool set
I was looking for a simple heat gun to use for simple heat shrink use. I already own a collection of 20V XR DeWalt batteries so this heat gun was a no brainer addition. Compared to my corded heat gun, this tool does not deliver the high heat (it is battery operated after all) output but it works just fine for its intended purpose. This tool is very effective for heat shrink purposes. I have also tried it with solder wire joint splice and there is sufficient heat to melt the solder and heat shrink the sleeve around it. This tool also makes it very easy to use a heat gun anywhere outside, or any remote location where access to AC power is problematic. You do need to keep in mind that since this is battery powered, your run time will be limited.

Handy little heat gun
OK - This review is in the context of what we have here. This is a 20v heat gun. This is not some plug-in 1200w furnace. Powered by a 5 Ahr battery, it has only 100 Whrs to play with. So it has its limitations, but I expected that when I bought it and I am not comparing it to a plug-in model. Will it be useful to strip paint off a house? No. Will it be good at heating heat shrink tubing? Yes. I bought it for the little things I need a heat gun for and a plug-in is overkill or just inconvenient to deal with. Within that context, this is a great tool. It is handy, light weight with a small-ish battery, heats up quickly, self-standing and I don’t have to deal with cords (I despise cords and the demons who think it is funny to tangle them). Run time - not overly important as I have a full line of batteries but it runs plenty long on a 5 Ahr battery so as to not being annoying. Temperature - I didn’t measure it, but fine for what I have used it for. Only 3 stars for heat output? I didn’t want to give people they idea that it could be used to scrape the paint off a house. Why only 4 stars overall? Because the lock-on button is for right hand use only. Dewalt, there are lefties out there in the population. Do you need to be reminded about your past indiscretions with respect to this (leaf blower comes to mind)? While I am a righty, I found myself at times using this with my left hand and found this being designed for right hand use only to be a Royal pain. It seems this button could have been designed to be operated from both sides, which I would have found to be really helpful. I would recommend it, within its context.

Great heat gun. Terrible tool to make friends.
It took 6 hours, but eventually I cooked a 37lb turkey with this thing. I then chucked the turkey off an overpass to an unsuspecting motorist in a convertible and yelled happy thanksgiving. He wasn’t very thankful, however. Probably because it’s March and it messed up his car. Oh well. It was a Miata; so it’s not like things were going great for him to begin with.

Convenient
Very convenient if you use a lot of shrink tape

It's alright.
I got this Dewalt heat gun to replace my corded Heat gun. Basically I need a heat gun for speaker wire splices, or Lutron cable splices and I was trying to avoid having to pull out the extension cord that can be a pain at homes under construction that are large and have limited power outlets. I was able to use the heat shrink solder connectors I normally use, but the performance is fearless from my $24 corded unit. The air comming out is considerably less and the heat output is less as well. I really have to hold the connector up close to the heating element to get the solder to melt. I also used the curved attachment to aid with the heating process. I understand this is as probably as well as it going to get from a battery powered unit What I really hate about this product Is the trigger switch that is over engineered junk.

Easy to grab and get to work
So nice to not have a cord to heat shrink wires. Works good I wish I bought one sooner.

Works great, used for heat shrink core ID'S within PLC. Brought 18v batteries separately and still produces required heat.

The blower is so slow and heat come soooo late. I am really dissapointed in Dewalt, what were they thinking when designing this?!?? For this application, i will still stick back to wired heat gun instead. This one will head head straight to the "Museum"

Love the quality of dewalt tools. A great addition to a carpenters bag - use this to thaw locks frozen on construction trailer, heat up cold hands and heat up vinyl to stretch for custom bench seats!
