It works good for a until it sucks in on the pump

This is a terrific filter bag. We originally had a different brand that didn't do a very good job. The holes in the mesh on the previous one were too large, not much smaller than the holes in the pump housing. The opening also had to be gathered and secured with a zip tie, so one would need to have extra zip ties to reattach after maintenance. This pump bag has much smaller holes. The hole size would not allow baby fish or tadpoles to be sucked into the pump, but large enough not to noticeably restrict water flow. This bag also features a drawstring closure, that is easy to tightly fasten around the tubing and cord.

Since pump is mounted within a pump/filter box, getting the bag on and off the pump is awkward at first but should be easier with additional attempts. The bag appears to be able to keep fairly small debris from getting into the pump mechanism.

I absolutely LOVE this barrier bag. Hate the sponge things small pond pumps come with to cover the intake, I'd rather not fiddle with slimy sponges non-stop. I don't want to run the pump with an uncovered intake, as I'm pretty sure my filter would have a lot of ground guppy in it if I did. This was just right for what I needed, brought it out of the pond a couple times this summer and sprayed it out to clean it, it's flexible, sturdy, low maintenance and didn't cost a fortune. I bought a small rectangular plastic basket from the dollar store, removed the side mesh and the bottom, and used the resulting open frame to form a cube inside the bag to keep the intake away from the mesh. While some adventurous guppy fry may have taken their final swim, the mesh openings are large enough not to constantly clog but small enough to protect the adult guppies, loaches and my goldfish. I have a preformed 300 gallon pond shell, so this isn't trying to sift out a ton of bottom crap as might be the case with a 'natural' pond.

This pump barrier bag is great. Cuts down on the cleaning time of our pond fountain pump. Before using this bag, we'd have to shut down the fountain, pull it in and clean out the pump. Now with this pump barrier bag we only have to do i t once a month. Love this bag. More time to enjoy my Koi pond with less work. Wold buy it again. Highly recommend it for pond owners.

One of our frogs got sucked in to our pump last year (they love to hang out in the skimmer and we can't keep them out), and I got this bag primarily to help keep the others from that fate. It's been in place for around a year now, and I can happily report that there have been no more frog deaths! Additionally, this bag helps to keep out larger chunks of debris and gunk that manage to slip past my other filter media. It's a good "last resort" for keeping muck out of your pump. My only minor complaint is that I wish the bottom of the bag were flat. The seam of the bag runs right through the middle of the bottom, and it sometimes makes the pump a bit wobbly on the bottom of my skimmer box. I can definitely recommend this item overall.

I installed the Pond Boss Pump Barrier Bag on a 400 GMP pump in my 270 gallon goldfish pond. It has been in place for a month now and I've not yet needed to clear debris from the bag. My pond is full of plant life and, prior to putting the pump inside the barrier bag, I'd have to remove debris at least every-other-day. Some other reviewers referred to problems with the barrier bag clogging up and inhibiting pump flow. That may be a true for a high volume pump. However, its not an issue at all with a relatively small, low throughput pump. I've very glad that I got this.

This may not be a fair review, but I can only report my experience and let the readers reach their own conclusion. I have a 4,000 gal. pond, presently with no vegetation. I do live in an area subject to substantial wind blown debris (leaves, seed pods, mown grass, etc.) too numerous to effectively skim from the surface. Therefore, the pump is clogged with both large and small particles and must be cleaned on a weekly to bi-weekly basis. My pump is a Little Giant, rated at 3,200 GPH., with two discharge ports, one to the filter the other directly to the waterfall. This splits ths discharge into two equal, more or less, quantities of 1,600 GPH. The filter's internal parts further reduce its discharge to about 1250 GPH .I was sure bagging the pump would solve the large debris problem, but immediately on enclosing the pump and placing it back on line, the discharge was about one-half its unbagged quantity. Seems the mesh of the bag in itself was acting as a blockage by small debris. I left it to run for the next 24 hours. That evening we had a tremendous storm which resulted in flooding the yard and washing soil and other debris into the pond. Later I noticed the pump discharge was a trickle. When I lifted the pump from the pond the bag was completely covered with soli particles which were blow or washed in by the preceding storm. Good news is that the pump itself was clog free, so I guess I could say the bag did its job to protect the pump. End of story, this may be the answer for those with a small, debris free pond. If you do decide to bag you may want to increase your pumps discharge. if you are in an area such as I, and/or you cannot increase your pump's capacity, you may wish to avoid the bag. For a small pond, easily skimmed of debris, the bag might work.
