desertcart.com: Pooh's Library: Winnie-The-Pooh, The House At Pooh Corner, When We Were Very Young, Now We Are Six (Pooh Original Edition): 9780525444510: Milne, A. A., Shepard, Ernest H.: Books Review: Winnie the Pooh and Friends Are No Bother - For many years I have meant to read the works of A. A. Milne concerning Winnie The Pooh and friends. Finally and happily I have done so...and then some. Included with the Pooh books are two collections of poetry. There are two main points I can make about Pooh's Library. The stories about Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Tigger and, most importantly, Christopher Robin are sweet, wistful, endearing, joyful, loving and easy to read. They are appropriate for all members of the family, young and old and universal in appeal. Mr. Milne did his son the greatest honor by making him the hero, the foundation of these friends of the forest and the Hundred-Acre Wood, who come to him whenever there is a problem or a question of how to handle a situation. Each character is different and leaves a distinctive impression of personality and skills. Pooh, Christopher's best friend, is the dreamer who creates poems and songs sprinkled through the stories. Piglet can be a little nervous. Rabbit and Owl can read and write...to a point. Eeyore is an unmistakable pessimist. Kanga, the mother, is matter-of-fact and Roo, her son, is playful and reckless. Tigger likes to bounce and probably will forever. The element of the stories which stands most fast in my memory is the love between Christopher and Pooh. It is timeless, unforgettable and everlasting, untouched by the change indicated by Mr. Milne. My second point concerns the two books of poetry - When We Were Very Young, and Now We Are Six. The poems in them are more structured than Pooh's and involve Pooh's world only minimally. Also, while the two books of stories seem more universal to me, the poetry books have a decided English influence to them. This should not shock those who realize Mr. Milne was English. There are poems about many things a child experiences, dreams about, wonders about, however Mr. Milne includes many references to a British childhood from the twentieth Century and many years previously, which may be unfamiliar to an American child. I am not saying this is bad but it is not quite as universally appealing as the adventures of Christopher Robin, Pooh and friends. I highly recommend Winnie the Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner without reservation. I learned that not everyone lives and not everything occurs in the Hundred-Acre Wood. The books of poetry may not appeal to every child. I am quite an Anglophile in books and movies; not every child will be. It this is irrelevant to you and your child, then disregard. Enjoy what you like or are willing to try. Review: Beautiful collection - If you've never read this collection. Read it. The writing is perfect: humorous, soft and perfectly captures that window of early childhood thinking. I suspect even adults without kids would like it, but as the mom of four little kids these are very popular bedtime stories in our household. The copies themselves are prettily made, have a smooth feel, thick paper, with the occasional ink sketch illustration. Smaller books overall, but fit nicely for reading with one or two kids.

Beautiful edition
I'm not going to bother reviewing the text of Winnie the Pooh, it's a classic and great. This edition is beautifully bound. You can see the dust jackets in the pictures, when they get lost (I'm down to having three left), the books have different colored tape over the spine and cardboard fronts and backs with the pooh honey bees embossed on the front. The main complaint about this edition seems to be that the illustrations aren't in color, they are the originals and I think they look great, but if you want color, buy another edition. The thing I like most about this edition is the size of the books- about 5'' x 7 1/2'' and maxing out under 200 pages. That makes easy for children to handle, and easier to see progress as they make their way through a book (i.e. the size of the page leads to less text per page and getting through 50 pages is a visible dent when you move a book mark), so I prefer the separate volumes to a giant tome. I would add that if you aren't familiar with the other books in the series, they are fun reads, I particularly appreciate Now We Are Six which is a collection of short poems with accompanying illustrations.

Beautiful set, caution for bratty kids that demand color pictures
I got this book set for my 3 year old niece. I'm giving this set all possible stars because it is a great quality set at a good value. However, this is probably not the ideal set of winnie the pooh books for a 3 year old. The sketches are minimal and are in black and white. These are not color books. My little niece looked through the books in horror asking where the color pictures were. This book set has a lovely antique quality to it. Aunty thought it was a timeless classic set. Anya thought they were boring with no color pitures. Brat. Li recommend getting his set as it contains all the wonderful stories by A.A. Milne. However, I might suggest getting this book along with some of the cheaper color versions for the little kids to look at. That or maybe reserve this book set for children that are a bit older (5 or 6?) that won't have a meltdown if there aren't color photos. Still, it's a beautiful set that would make a really classy gift for a child's birthday or a baby shower. Just don't give it to a bratty 3 year old.

Such Lovely Books!
I wish I’d taken a picture of the books in their box but I was using them for decorations for my daughter’s Winnie the Pooh baby shower. These are hardcover books. Every single one is in mint condition, as is the box that holds them. The pages are made of good quality material. I’d hoped there would be colorful drawings in them but the sketches are beautiful as they are. They made great decorations and now my daughter will be able to use them in her nursery! A beautiful set of books.

All the Winnie-the-Pooh books you want in one set
A cozy collection of all the Winnie-the-Pooh books I read growing up. I wanted all the Winnie-the-Pooh books in one set, and this was exactly what I was looking for. Great value. Fun to read at any age. The navigation is simple, and the formatting is easy to read on my tablet.

A £30 book for 1p + £2.80 postage can't be bad!! (A large format heavy book, hard back + D/J, 432 pages with beautiful coloured illustrations & all 'W the P' poems & stories). I bought this for my work with residents in the Care Home where I work (excellent for reminiscence & poetry sessions) & I was so impressed with the book I immediately checked out Amazon to see if there were any more at the same price! Just one! So I've got one for myself now! and it's in even better condition than the first one that I bought (which itself was excellent!) Must be the best value purchase I have ever made.

This version is very low quality. The paper quality is very bad. I got the same book twice so one book is missing. One of the books had pages torn. Totally disappointed in this buy and not at all recomended!!!
