All Sony's tech in one small capsule...
One of the best smart phones of this era. Few points to note: 1) Phone looks too gorgeous. Just amazing and classy. Most people on Youtube complaiend about bezeles, but they are great. They yield a symmetric pleasure. 2) Speakers are wonderful and clear. They are not LOUD, but they are elegent and CLEAR. 3) Of course the display's beauty can not be put in words. YES you do observe a drastic difference between quad HD or Full HD, even on a mobile screen -- Why else would technology be pushed? And it is amazing -- specially, for now, the 4k youtube videos. 4) Finger print scanner is at right place and as you can record multiple fingers, it's ease of access is high even if one hand is in use 5) The stamina mode for the battery is pretty good. Though you will find the difference of low performance when in stamina mode -- I mean low in relative to the ultra pleasure you get from its fastness. 6) The 3D creator is very fun. Once you invove in it, you can create loads of fun stickers, Augmented realities and much more. Just note that for more clarity, you need more LIGHT. 7) 960fps slow mo camera is a beast in itself. Of course, even for this you need more light (unless you are shooting lighters/fire where dark BG is recomended) and the art of timing, if mastered, one will have the pleasure of multiple slow mo's in a single video. 8) Camera's auto mode is very intelligent, in the sense that, it can detect the object and change the mode -- for papers, it showed "document mode", for food - "gourmet", for closeups - "macro", for moving objects, it can track the motion and much more. BUt again, you need more light for its beauty to be competeing and crossing the other phones. In low light, its performance is OK, but not great. But I don;t have any complaint as such, for, most of the mobiles are just 10% better to this in low light and this phone gives much more in return. 9) One need to be careful with sim and memory card tray -- its little delicate. 10) When you busy screen protectors - tempered glass, be careful of teh edges. Unless the glass is edged, its useless to buy, as it would not stick properly. Thats all I could think of. If any questions, let me know -- I will try to answer. Happy Buy!!

Stunning Phone
Best phone I've ever had. I originally had the Samsung Note 8 and gave it a glowing review. The performance and camera were excellent, but a couple of things were bothering me. This new "Bixby" nonsense felt like major bloatware and was annoying as hell, and it just felt bulky and ugly. The edge screen is a nice gimmick for a while, but I found I was accidentally tapping the screen all the time. Decided to sell it and buy this instead. Best phone purchase I've ever made. Performance-wise it runs the same as the Note 8 and S8. Less RAM but you wouldn't know it. But the difference here is that with this Sony Xperia, you get a pure, stock-like Android OS that reminds me of my Nexus 6P (or any other Google phone) there's no useless bloatware, just genuinely helpful Sony apps like a theme store and a really good support and maintenance app. Everything just works. Smoothly. The phone is stunning. I was a bit dubious about the bezel size at first, but I can 100% see the appeal now. Practically speaking, I'm not accidentally hitting the screen with my fingers anymore, and aesthetically, it just fits with the squared off, retro-yet-modern look of the device. Not sure about the actual dimensions, but it just feels slimmer and lighter than most "phablet" style devices. Another concern I had was about the camera. Samsung cameras are great. Nothing to worry about. This takes stunning pictures and has super slow motion recording. If you own a PlayStation, you have the added perk of having Remote Play. You used to be able to download a port for any Android device, but that was discontinued by the developer months ago, so as it stands, the only way to use Remote Play is with a Sony device. Battery life is excellent too. 4K mode is always on, so this is no mean feat. Audio quality with headphones is boosted by some Sony trickery. Even with Bluetooth headphones. Great if you listen to a lot of music. And it has stereo front-facing speakers. I could go on, but I think it's clear that you should just buy this if you're thinking about it right now. My first Sony after always having Samsungs and I'm totally converted

Spectacular
Update It is May 2022. I've been using this phone since December 2017. It is finally starting to show its age. Don't get me wrong, I've never had a big problem with this phone. The battery life is spectacular, especially when you use the phone as a hotspot. I've put Terrabytes of data through this phone's 4G antenna without ever giving it a break and it has served me loyally. Camera is great, although is poor compared to newer models in low light conditions, and cannot record video at all during the night due to poor low-light operability of the camera (unless I've set it up wrong). Ultimately after almost 5 years it's served me well, but I've noticed in the past few months that apps have been freezing or crashing far more frequently than they had been previously. Battery life is still good but cannot compete with what it once was. All things considered, it's still a good phone, but hasn't received android updates since mid 2019 I believe. App compatibility is still not a problem. Mobile games run good although I can only speak for PUBG Mobile. There seems to be an issue with maintaining a steady connection to WiFi. It will drop out for no reason whatsoever quite frequently and will occasionally require a manual reconnect. I can't say for sure if it's a software or a hardware issue. This means things like YouTube and mobile games like Clash of Clans can be a pain. Once again, another weird issue, perhaps only with my specific device is that the selfie camera has a weird issue with the software, where all images have a tiny, almost unnoticeable pink tint to them. Even if you are in a dark room and cover the camera, it will have a purple/pink tint which makes no sense. This issue seems to only happen on Snapchat. Very weird. Still holds a 5 star review in my opinion. Original review Love it. Moved from IPhone to android (this phone) and I've never looked back. It's fast, the camera is amazing and the battery genuinely lasts all day. As for the 4k Screen Feature and 960fps slow motion camera... I don't use them. They are a bit of a gimmick in my opinion, but overall it's a great phone. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them. 🙂

Not the leap forward I was hoping for.
I finally took the decision to upgrade my 4 year old phone and decided to give the xz premium a go. The handset is very expensive but seeing how i tend to keep my phones for 3-4 years i decided to get one. Lets start with things i don't like, To start with the phone is quite large and can be difficult to fit in the pocket of your jeans. It's quite thick and reasonably heavy. Not a huge leap from my 4 year old phone so felt slightly underwhelmed. Screen suffers from some light bleed at the very top of the display, also has a very slight yellowish tint when compared to other phones. Cheap nasty earphones provided in box (why don't they give you a decent pair on a phone that is over £600!) Screen is overly sensitive to auto rotation. Super slow motion camera nothing more than a gimmick. Useless in anything other than very bright light. Even videos in bright light are grainy when viewed on a computer or tv. Also it can only do the slow motion for 1 second at a time. Would have been good to have at least 5 seconds. Now the good. The screen is very sharp and displays some nice colours. Fingerprint sensor is excellent. The phone is always very fast and responsive. Battery life is very good. When not in heavy use i have managed 6 days, on busier days i still manage to get 2-3 days out of it. Sound quality is very good when you use a decent pair of earphones and not the ones provided. Phone is nice and clear when making a call. Phone does not get hot when in use. Waterproof If you are on the fence and not sure if it is worth the money, then I would wait for the xz1 which should come out around September. Having come from a handset that was 4 years old it really isn't that much of a leap forward. Every phone manufacturer is struggling to come up with new ideas to keep things fresh. Maybe they need to start reducing the size of handsets.

It's a reasonable phone
+ it's a great phone for the price. Reasonable camera, very good screen, speakers are good too. Battery is amazing, can last 2 days depends on the usage. Sony's customer service is good enough - The shape of the phone is a bit unusual. I like the design, but you will need a big pocket for it. System can be crashing sometimes, but I think it happens to every phone these days. Only single camera,

Time to update my Xperia Arc...
My last phone I bought 6 years ago was the Xperia Arc, it's lasted well and still works as a back up phone. On the sttrength of the Arc I have stuck with the current Xperia. I'm pleased to say it is a great phone, it's quick, intuative and with all the features I need. I was a bit shocked at how intrusive all the apps and accounts have become, and people were concerned at carrying an id card but this far more intrusive. Still, if you want the features you need to give it access. You will need a case as it is the most slippery phone I have ever held so buy one with it. The speakers are great for there size and work well with the bluetooth, havn't tried the NFC yet. It comes with a Qualcom v3 speed charger giving 80% in half hour or so and also the phone has smart battery charging, if it's late at night it will not speed charge unless you want it to to protect the bat. Video is ofcourse great on it and with an 128GB card on top you have 192GB but the apps and OS use up about 12GB. Works well with Amazon 4k and Netflix. If you get a memory card for it be sure it is marked as the new speed class for UHD, either V30 or V60. If you are loaded then V90 but that is really fo 4-8k UHD so a bit OTT. V Class is the new memory card rating, Video Speed Rating. Numerous other things to play with on it but I'm still discovering them. Overall a great phone and if it lasts as well as the Arc i've used since 2011 I'll be very happy.

Great phone with a good camera, shame about the fingerprint reader
There's a lot to like about this Sony phone; great screen that's very sharp and clear and works well even in quite strong sunlight, a good camera that produces good images even in low light levels, it quick and doesn't lag with the apps I use - not using it for gaming so I can't comment on that, sound quality is OK, I use Sony blue tooth earbuds for listening to music and beat of all the price is great - I paid £199 which is excellent value for money IMO The only real downside is the fingerprint reader which is situated on the side of the phone and quite awkward to use. When the phone is inside the wallet I bought for it, this becomes near impossible and I very often resort to using the password to login to the phone.
