I’ve used this on waterproof jackets and synthetic hiking boots. It does what it says. When the outer fabric starts soaking up rain instead of beading it off, this spray brings the beading back and helps the gear stay breathable. What matters: Clean the item first. Use a proper technical cleaner like Nikwax Tech Wash or natural soap - do NOT use normal detergent or fabric conditioner or it will fail and you'll destroy the chances of your gear working as well as it should in the future. DON'T ignore this bit - been there, done that. Do not use normal washing detergent or fabric softener. They leave residue that attracts water and stops this product working properly. If you have used normal detergent before, rinse the item well before applying. Spray onto clean, damp fabric. Apply evenly and wipe off any excess. Let it dry naturally, or use a short, low heat tumble if the label allows. Do not leave it in a hot dryer for a long time. Too much heat can reduce how well it works and can stress waterproof linings like Gore-Tex. My jacket is waterproof again, that cool. The only minus is after application my jacket stinks. I need to apply expensive perfume many times as this crappy smell still is on the jacket.

I have been using this spray on all my waterproof jackets, my snowboard and skiing clothing too and it works. Very easy to use with no colour damage to my cloths. There is a slight smell when using it but once it has dried you would not know. The waterproofing is excellent. I will suggest doing a few coats of it to make sure that you jackets etc are totally covered. Defently value for money as it means you clothing last longer instead of buying new gear. I use this spray on a regular basis. If I have washed my kit and once totally dry I will then re waterproof my kit and I am good to go out.

I must be doing something wrong , I wash my gear I tech wash , exactly as the instructions say , then I use this spray exactly as the instructions say , but I never get the beading up , that I expect, in areas it does but not all over. My hands and everything else is 100% waterproof and water beads up on. It's probably me and not the product.

I've just tried this out on a coat I washed. It dried very well and appears to do what you need. However, I've yet to try it in heavy rain.....

Can never fault the quality of the proper Nikwax. Uses this stuff for many years. And the spray on is my preference over the wash in. It’s easy to use but got to watch for the drips and make sure they dont go on the floor or dry on your clothing. It’s good value for money as long as you don’t try and apply way too much, which I’ve done before. As for effectiveness It does exactly what it says on the tin!
