Excellent, but not perfect
I had the following criteria at play in my shopping for an alternative to my sippy-cup style coffee tumbler: 1. Zero buttons, switches, springe, hinges or any other complex moving parts that come into contact with the interior contents. 2. Significantly higher capacity, greater than 20oz. 3. Stainless steel interior, with a double wall (no plastic). I found a few things that met those criteria, but ultimately speaking I was just tired of how incessantly filthy things like the Contigo drink-thru containers got. Even when they're dishwasher safe and you wash them right away, there's just too many nooks and crannies to get at and you eventually start noticing - or worse, tasting - the gunk build up in spite of your efforts. I digress, and will move on to discussing this wonderful product. What do you get in the Thermos here? Well, something that's a bit too absent lately: simplistic functionality. There are no bells, whistles, or doodads on this piece of hardware. It's a double-walled insulated tube of stainless steel. Here's some observations: - Keeps drinks at temperature nearly alarmingly well. I've done no scientific study on it, but when filled with freshly brewed coffee, it isn't warm to the touch (good) and so long as you're keeping it sealed, it stays very near that temperature for at least 12 hours. Routinely I brew a pot at 6:45am, take a full thermos to work, drink some or none, and have some piping hot coffee after dinner at home after work. - The interior sealing lid is plastic, which is a slight bummer but probably has to do with thermal expansion and shape retention. It can be quite difficult to get off as it is - the textured nooks on the lid aren't very great for grip, especially when slick with condensation. The lid is leak-proof, and I have yet to encounter any spills. - Speaking of the interior lid, the pour-through lid is something I could take or leave, honestly. It pours so slowly that it makes for a bit of awkward noise in a cubicle environment, and it's really not worth the thermal retention it offers. I often just find myself taking the whole thing off to pour a mug. - The outer lid functions as a cup in a pinch, but with two caveats. First, the interior lining of the cup is plastic, same as the sealing lid, and that's not really appealing to me. Second, it is NOT insulated and will immediately heat up to nearly the temperature of whatever you're pouring into it. You can burn yourself on the outside of the cup without taking appropriate measures of caution. - One small mention: The outer cap is not leak-proof. If you do not secure the inner plug properly, the outer cap offers no further protection from leaking. - With a bottle brush, it cleans extremely easily. Proactive rinsing helps a ton too. On the whole, it satisfies every need I had in a coffee container. I'd like to see the outer cap-cup insulated, but I'd rather use a coffee mug any time I have it available anyway.

Excellent Thermos with Excellent Heat Retention
This is another of those products that I didn't realize I needed until I bought it. I bought two, one for my girlfriend and one for myself, because she had been talking about wanting a Thermos. After reading the reviews, I decided to get this one. I've been using it for about a month now, and it's become something I can't live without. Okay, first of all, the heat retention ability. They say that if you put something into a preheated Thermos (preheated by letting hot water sit in it for five minutes) at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit (95 Celsius), it should still be at 150 Fahrenheit (66 Celsius) 24 hours later. Although I haven't actually tested it scientifically, I can say anecdotally that this is probably true. I use mine for tea, so I'll preheat it in the mornings, drop in a couple of tea bags, and pour in boiling water. If I haven't drunk all of my tea, when I pour it out the next morning, it is still steaming and warm, but cool enough to drink immediately. From morning to evening, though, it remains so hot that I have to give it a few minutes before drinking. Next, the form factor, durability, convenience, and size. It is advertised as being made out of unbreakable stainless steel. I haven't tried really hard to break it, but I have dropped it several times and have seen no marks, dents, or anything of the sort. It certainly feels quite durable. I haven't owned it long enough to say whether or not the heat retention ability sticks around for a long time, but the only piece in it that seems like it could possibly degrade is the little silicone (or some other type of plastic) bit that seals in the cap. The form factor is good. It looks like a typical Thermos. The size is pretty much perfect. It's not so large as to be inconvenient. It fits nicely into the water bottle slot on my backpack, and it fits into most car cup holders easily. The capacity is perfect for my average workday, as I can get three full cups (typical coffee cups) out of it. It holds 26 ounces (a bit over 0.75 liters), so just measure it out and see if that is enough for you. They do make a larger one, but I haven't felt as though I needed anything more than this. As for convenience, the ability to pour without completely removing the cap is fantastic. It keeps the heat trapped inside while allowing for convenient pouring. Remember you don't have to unscrew it all the way; as long as the seal at the bottom is broken, you'll be able to pour, and the less you open it, the better. The stream of water does tend to splash a bit if you pour too fast, but once you get used to it, it's not a problem. Pros: - Good size - EXCELLENT heat retention (haven't tried cold, but it's the same principle) - Nice, solid design - Convenient pour spout - The outer cap doubles as a cup if you need it Cons: - Not great for on-the-go drinking; you need to be somewhere where you can pour it out (note that this is a good thing because an on-the-go mechanism would probably lead to awful heat retention) - Nothing else I can think of! This is a fantastic product, and one that I would definitely buy again. It's great for working (and not having to spend millions at Starbucks), camping, or any other situation in which you won't have easy access to a nice hot beverage.
