With brightness up, the OLED screen on this is as visible as a screen can be in the sun.

is this wireless or do I need to keep it plugged?

The unit comes with the DC cord and needs constant power in order to operate.

Is the firmware upgradable and if so, does it run on Windows only?

the firmware is upgradable, I am not certain if we have an upgrade out for that model yet (it is very new) but you can use windows and mac to update.

If I power the device off and leave it plugged in does it drain my car's battery?

No it will not drain your car battery.
