In The Twelve Houses, acclaimed astrologer Howard Sasportas explores in detail the experiences and situations associated with each of the houses, describing not only their tangible associations but also the more subtle meanings of each of the different spheres of life. A pioneering volume and a favourite among students and professionals alike, this is the recognized as the definitive work on the subject. This revised edition contains a new foreward by Liz Greene and tribute essays from leading astrologers Darby Costello, Melanie Reinhart, Erin Sullivan and Laura Boomer Trent. Review: Clear, concise information! - An awesome addition to any Astrological library. Clear and easy to understand! Review: The book that puts everything together - This is the best material I've read about astrological houses so far. One might know the basic meaning of houses, like: 2nd is money, 10th is career etc., but Sasportas really puts it together, explains WHY is it so, why one house is followed by another (what the particular house order is based on), etc. It really helps to see the bigger picture and understand the houses and astrology in general. After reading this book, I started to feel/understand the energy of each house, the essence of each house, what the house is actually about. I like that there are a lot of examples of real people placements, it helps to understand better how does each placement manifest in the house. Anyone who is interested in astrology, will find a lot of valuable information in this book.

The book that puts everything together

Definitive work if you're interested in advanced astrology
The book helped me expand my understanding of the houses in the horoscope. Very clear in both text and examples. Helped me explore both the fundamental and more esoteric energies of each house.

A deep and broad vision
Over the years I've had my chart done a couple times. Now that I`ve read this book I see why I felt those charts were lacking. What you see is determined by how you see and your particular beliefs, assumptions and feelings. The way this relates to Sasportas is that I felt in this book I received a fuller vision that had humor, balance, and that took various nuances in consideration as well as a deeper psychological feeling. He also helped me see better the value and lessons of the parts of my chart I was resisting and weren`t as easy for me to like or accept. These challenges are expanded into opportunities in his vision. In addition to all this Sasportas is enjoyable to read. He`s an interesting writer whose passion gives his words momentum and life. It seemed so appropriate and timely that I happened on his work now. He`s a broad thinker of ideas and feeling and psychological nuance.

One of the best books I've read
Very concise, covers everything you need to know, shows diagrams to help with understanding and it's clear that the author had such a depth of knowledge.

Helpful with a subject not always addressed in depth. Good choice for a serious student.
This is not a new book (CR 1985) and takes a rather Jungian slant, but also takes the time to explain how the actual divisions are derived, various house systems and how the various interpretations of each house are actually related. He was not the first to look at the chart as an evolutionary trip, but since it is all there from the beginning and is not lived in chronological order, I sometimes disagreed with the developmental approach, but not enough to devalue the all-over clear and understandable content. He also covers some additional topics such as Nodes and Chiron, house related but clarifying as to use and possible meaning in the chart. I have other books by this author and find him very useful to go back to.

Worth purchasing if you actually want to learn
Definitely worth the purchase if you're into Astrology and want to learn about the houses in the horoscope. Goes into detail about each house, as well as houses in certain signs and planets in houses. I know a lot of people want to visually see the information this provides so I took a picture of the contents page for those interested.

COMPLETE BOOK, BEST OF ITS KIND
Over the past 6 years, i have been fascinated with astroloy. I have bought an increible amount of books searching for clues to understanding my own birth chart. Although I don't consider them all a waste of money (most of them anyway), they only gave me very little usable information that still left me puzzled and unclear as to what my natal stars where telling me. Then i found this book... No, this book is not going to give you half mingled understanding to what you are looking at in your chart, it is going to make it very clear and will go into an amazing depth of each house and star position. I found the answers to the deeper meanings of my chart and it has greatly helped me to validate what I intuitively knew about myself and where I was headed. Thank you Howard Sasportas for this amazing work, and may you know where ever you are in the other world, that your work continues to be a guiding light for many of us still in the bounds of this world.

Best book on houses
I have read many astrology books and no one describes houses in such a tangible, clear, earthy, and concrete way. A must-read for every astrologer

My favourite and most used astrology book out of my entire collection
I have an entire shelf of astrology books, but this is the one I refer to the most. Great in depth explanations of each of the 12 houses, as well as the planetary archetypes. I'd say you need to already understand the basics of astrology, and then this book will vastly expand on the foundations. I still use it all the time for analysing other peoples chart. Absolutely brilliant book.

only recommend to beginners
not what i expected of it due to the rating on amazon. i really didnt think this book was that great. i mean its great for beginners because there is some basic knowledge on the meaning of the planets and the houses. i exoected it to go more in depth but it didnt which i was disappointed about. if you need to learn the basics this boos is great, if you are more advanced in astrology i wouldnt recommend.
