Got these (what a bargain!) to replace the water-cooler style 5 gallon bottles I had been using to store water with. I opened the containers and let them "air out" for about a week to get rid of any manufacturing/plastic smell. Then I rinsed them out with some warm soapy water and gave them another rinse with some sanitizing solution since I happened to have some on hand. They are easy to fill up using the kitchen sink sprayer and easy to maneuver around. I like that they fit in the bottom part of my pantry. If you are going to use this type (or any 5 gallon or larger) container then I would recommend getting a battery operated pump. It will make dispensing the water much easier when it is needed.

After years of storing water in those clear spring water jugs from HD & WM, and having them ultimately split and leak at the darndest times, I finally decided to go with something a little more substantial and these fit the bill perfectly. I bought the 6-pack and as I was doing the initial wash & sanitize steps on these, I was reminded of the old Samsonite luggage commercial from the 70's where they torture-tested the luggage with gorillas...well, these things are definitely gorilla proof! Some reviewers complain about the smell of plastic and relate that to "dangerous and toxic chemicals" and I read one review that claimed that Scepter mixed up the plastic on these for the plastic that they use for fuel cans. Sorry scooter, that's just plain silly and a knee-jerking, review from an uninformed person. Fact, these water cans are made of food-grade, BPA free plastic. 100% safe! They are blow molded and shortly thereafter the lid is affixed and sealed-up and prepared for shipping. Guess what scooter...these things are made of plastic and plastic smells like plastic...surprise-surprise...the inside is going to smell like plastic immediately after opening up never used can, especially when new and freshly sealed up. I removed the lids and let mine air-out for about 24 hours and there was just the faintest smell of plastic. After a double-wash & rinse with Dawn dish detergent, there is no smell. I filled with water and taste-tested after a week and my water tastes like water. Absolutely zero after taste and no plastic taste. These are good cans! I did perform a slight modification to my lids in order to make them more easier to dispense. I took a brand-new, 1/2" NPT pipe tap and cut threads into the inside of the small pour spout. Then went to HD and bought a 1/2" water valve so I can screw it into the pour spout and sit the can on it's side and let gravity fill my water bottles and anything else that needs filling. I highly recommend these water cans! They will literally be the last water can that you will ever buy unless it gets lost or stolen. If you're sitting on the edge about these cans, just buy them and give them a good airing-out and washing before use...and remember plastic smells like plastic when new.

We purchased two of these in green and two in tan. They ship lightning fast ( 3 days or less ) and come two in a cardboard box as a set. They all have the Scepter logo stamped into the cans as show in the photos. They are authentic and with the free Prime shipping the least expensive we could find online. We tested all four for leaks after rinsing them all out with water. They were filled up, all three openings were closed tight and then laid on their sides. None leaked. These cans are think plastic and have some weight to them. They are much, much more secure and solid than any other can we could find for water storage. They also don't bend or buckle when the are stacked ( one on each other, not all four ). We have some cheaper water plastic storage cans in 7 gallons, but they are for home storage only. These are for home storage and mobile as they won't fail or fall apart. We also looked at the $150 silver metal Jerry cans for water storage, but they buckle when stacked according to other users. The look great, but we were going for function first. Could not be happier with this double purchase!

Very durable and reliable water storage. I use these for camping and also for keeping a quantity of emergency water at the house.

These are a great set of very sturdy water cans. The handles make them easy to carry and they are very stable. The plastic is thick and you can feel that they are built with quality. The caps have a screw on pour spout and a screw on air release to allow for pouring without the glub-glub annoyance. Yes, you will pay more for these than for many other models but it is worth it in my estimation. I have used them extensively in the field and they hold up well unless you abuse them.

Excellent. Arrived just in time for a beach trip, I was able to carry several days worth of water for my dogs in one. No leaks. Easy to use, clean & store, no off-putting odors or residues. I will probably buy more for emergency water storage. Highly recommend.

These are by far the most sturdy plastic containers I've ever held. I think they're even sturdier than my steel jerry cans. I haven't filled them yet because they need a thorough cleaning inside (they stink like new plastic) but I'm confident that once they're cleaned that smell will go away.

Love these cans. I keep buying them and will buy more. I definitely recommend also buying the tool. They handle tons of abuse in camp and on long travel days in rough terrain in the bed of a truck. If only all cans came with so little drama.

Shipped to us pretty fast, they’re durable and pretty big, I was expecting them to be smaller but I’m not complaining. They do smell on the inside, had to wash them out, besides that they’re doing us pretty good!!
