Gossip Girl meets the Gilded Age in this delicious and compelling novel, the third in the New York Times bestselling series from author Anna Godbersen. In the thrilling third installment of Anna Godbersenโs bestselling Luxe series, Manhattanโs most envied residents appear to have everything they desire: Wealth. Beauty. Happiness. But sometimes the most practiced smiles hide the most scandalous secrets. Jealous whispers. Old rivalries. New betrayals. This is Manhattan, 1899. Two months after Elizabeth Hollandโs dramatic homecoming, Manhattan eagerly awaits her return to the pinnacle of society. When Elizabeth refuses to rejoin her sister Dianaโs side, however, those watching New Yorkโs favorite family begin to suspect that all is not as it seems behind the stately doors of No. 17 Gramercy Park South. Farther uptown, Henry and Penelope Schoonmaker are the cityโs most celebrated couple. But despite the glittering diamond ring on Penelopeโs finger, the newlyweds share little more than scorn for each other. And while the newspapers call Penelopeโs social-climbing best friend, Carolina Broad, an heiress, her fortuneโand her fameโis anything but secure. โMystery, romance, jealousy, betrayal, humor, and gorgeous, historically accurate details. I couldnโt put The Luxe down!โ โCecily von Ziegesar, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Gossip Girl series Everyone has a secret. But whose will be the one to bring it all crashing down? Gilded Age Drama: Step into the opulent and treacherous world of 1899 Manhattan, where appearances are everything and fortunes can be lost overnight. High Society Rivalry: As Elizabeth Holland mysteriously retreats from the spotlight, her sister Diana and the cunning Penelope Schoonmaker vie for control of the social scene. Scandalous Secrets: A celebrated marriage built on scorn, a family hiding the truth behind stately doors, and an heiress whose fame is a dangerous lie. Jealousy and Betrayal: Old alliances crumble and new betrayals are forged as Manhattanโs elite play a dangerous game of hearts. Review: Envy's Another Great Entry - Envy, the third book in Anna Godbersen's Luxe series, picks up just a couple of months after Book Two left off: Penelope has managed to snag Henry, Elizabeth is mourning the loss of the love of her life, and Diana's determined to go on with her own life now that Henry's unavailable. Mix in former maid Carolina, and several misunderstandings, and you've got the stage for intrigue, gossip, and backstabbing that makes this series so wonderful. I wanted to inhale this book, but forced myself to slow down so I could wallow in the triumphs and troubles of New York's elite in 1900. Penelope, having achieved her goal of marriage, can't force poor Henry to love her, but she can make her "friends" jealous, which is why she arranges a train trip to Florida with all of them. While Penelope's confident she can bring Henry around somehow, Henry still only has eyes for Diana. Just when it seems things might work out for the star-crossed lovers, however, fate (in the form of Penelope) intervenes once again and things become much bleaker for all concerned. More than once I wanted to jump through the pages and invoke bodily harm on a character; more than once I felt like screaming that someone needed to just step up and take charge. When it all does come together at the end, I still wasn't satisfied--we're left on a major cliffhanger (or two) that won't be resolved until the final book of the series arrives. This series is such a guilty pleasure, filled with the high-minded, the rich, the underdogs, the over-the-top, and the rash. I love every page; Anna Godbersen has managed to capture not only the era and the settings, but also the personalities for a successful young adult soap opera. I freely admit I'm hooked, and cannot wait for the next one. BTW, I also love this cover the most of those so far. I can picture the model as our feisty Diana, ready to take on the world. Review: rather enjoyed this series - Although, this first book wasn't the strongest of the series, I gave it four stars. Again, keeping in mind I've read the entire series (Luxe). It had some Interesting characters and this first book wasn't the best, but if you read the next in the series it will be well worth reading! I was delighted that it wasn't another run-of-the-mill period romance series. I was bored by the elaborate descriptions of clothing....a bunch of fluff and unnecessary....yawn. Again, read the entire series and you will probably like it much better than this first book as a standalone read.

Oh, the tangled web we weave....
I could not put this down. I was hooked from page one and found this one so much more riveting and engaging than the previous release in this series. I will say that I think you need to read the others in this series, or at least that previous release, prior to reading this one. This is definitely a salacious emotion-filled soap opera. I hated that there was no happy ending before, and I still don't like that we don't get a conclusion in this one, but I had to give it the 5 stars because I absolutely couldn't stop reading this. The entanglements of all of the characters and their problematic lives was so entertaining to read. I rooted for Diana and Elizabeth to find happiness in their lives and I felt the anguish at their circumstances. There was so much deception by all of the characters and they all eventually suffer the consequences of those deceptions and of their choices. I want to read the next release right now. Here's hoping this author comes out with a comparable follow up and that the series doesn't drag out too long. I see this and the last in this series is listed as teen reading, but I am definitely not a teen. I would definitely recommend these books for older teens and adults......an addictive read!

Rich and Romantic
I really enjoyed this series. The details and descriptions brought vivid pictures to mind and made this a fund and exciting read. Risking everything for the men they love these sisters and their cohorts dazzle us with a story about love, loss, betrayal and envy.Loved every novel from beginning to ending.

i couldn't put it down!
I love the whole series, and had a hard time putting it down. It's was written about a time period that i love, the life style of the rich back in the turn of the century amazes me. The story line kept me intrigued and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. after reading THE LUXE I had to start the next one, RUMORS, right away, the ENVY, then SPLENDOR. I think I'll read then again!!!!

Love
I have all the books in the Luxe series. I'm not one for history or books set back in the day. But these books are written in such a great way that it's interesting in how the characters are portrayed in the 19th and early 20th century. Through the lies, secrets, and scandals you just want to keep reading and reading!

Envy is a bitter pill
This is the third book in The Luxe series. Like the previous books, it starts with a glimpse of the events at the end of the book and then proceeds through the course of time that led up to these events. Elizabeth Holland is back, but is a hollow shadow of her former self. Diana is crushed by Henry's marriage and Penelope is full of her success. Her mother has now pinned all of the family's hopes for a successful marriage on her. Penelope has everything she thought she wanted. However, that success may be bittersweet. As the group heads out for a trip to Florida, much intrigue occurs between all of the players, including Elizabeth's former maid, Lina, whose life will change dramatically. This volume definitely stirs the pot on all of the drama and leaves things unsettled and in flux for the final concluding volume of the series.

A little more surprising.
I have to admit that this book surprised me a little more than the last two. You vaguely think you know where the story is going (and in some of the cases you are if course right) but this one had some surprises. Good story.

loved every page
someone bought me the first book in this series for my birthday one year and I was a bit unsure whether it was my kind of thing but as soon as I started to read it I was hooked and each book had me dying to get started on the next one straight away. If I had to sum up I would say it was like a soap opera but more with a lot more glitz and glamour. Set among the debutante of early 1900s new york, you'll experience the schemes and back handed plots hidden behind a veneer of sophistication of the upper class
