Four out of the 12 chapsticks I received did not work and two if them had a very sweet scent. Is this a common occurence?

I've never heard of a tube of Chap-Stick that doesn't "work." As for the scent, yes, various scents have been added, but the original, non-scented is still available. Note the fine print in the ad.
