Barbie Forever: Her Inspiration, History, and Legacy (Official 60th Anniversary Collection)

It starts with general talk about Ruthe Handler and her way through business . From chapter 1 to chapter 3 all I can read was not new for me, as I read all books about Barbie, but starting from chapter 4 (Shaping Barbie) page:71 I really enjoyed it, the author was speaking about the current world of Barbie/Mattel, and the recent releases and manufacturing methods and so. In general, if you collect Barbie or into that, this book is a great read. The photos are really enjoyable and clear. 5 stars for the author and the publisher and Amazon.

A very special gift for my friend who just adores Barbie! I told her I think Barbie was modeled after her 😆. She always looks good, dresses well, and can accomplish any career she attempt too! She loved the book! (We’ve been friends for 50 years ❤️)

My wife is a HUGE Barbie fan. (I know little to nothing about Barbies, but I DO know my wife well.) Based on the description and on other reviews, I got what I thought was a good idea of the contents. So, I took a shot on this book hoping that it would be different than any other Barbie book she has seen. I am happy to say that I hit this one out of the park - she LOVES this book! She said that the book is very well written, and it does a wonderful job of spanning the inception, development and continuing ongoing history of one of the most recognized faces in toy history. It is a step beyond many other books, because of the stories-behind-the-stories, as well as the hows and whys of changes and development. It is filled with pictures and anecdotes, and it is a book to be read and referenced again and again.

Interesting book on Barbie. Still reading it in my spare time. Enjoy the stories and the photographs.

As a long time Barbie Collector, I must say, this is a comprehensive look at the history of Barbie from before her inception through 2019. I read many things I had never read before and I have a library of Barbie books. Example: I did not know that there was an exposition at the Louvre in Paris in 2016 or the extent to which Charlotte Johnson influenced the look of Barbie, especially her stay in Japan. Mattel’s most powerful message here is “Become Your Own Hero.” And it’s backed up by the new shapes, colors, nationalities and accomplishments of the NEWEST Barbies. If I have one issue (and I understand it’s a small one), some of my favorite Barbie dolls are not included i.e. Billy Boy’s “Feelin’ Groovy” Barbie. How could they leave that doll out? SMH But in spite of this, I still recommend the book.

Loved the dazzling glittery cover and the outstanding pictures and history of Barbie and how the was invented by Ruth Handler.

This is certainly one of the definitive books about Barbie Dolls and it is more up to date than the other good ones. It has a section that is fashion related which, while certainly an aspect of the product, is slightly trashy. It included a full page photo of Paris Hilton for no particular reason I could see which gave me pause to give the book to my granddaughter since I'm particular about role models - or rather who should not be. But the book has an interesting aspect of having photos on the inside of the dust jacket of notable women with Barbie Dolls patterned after them. And an introduction is by a Muslim Olympic fencing champion with a Barbie Doll fashioned after her and this is likely to check the inclusivity box which is an OK message. In that intro, she also mentions how she worked with the designers to strengthen the legs a little to match hers which probably checks the anti body shaming box. It's a very good book and certainly the premier book that is up to date. I only took off one star because of the overly shallow and trashy "fashion" section.
