This feeder has four cups to put jelly in. I put grape jelly in it, and just water in the nectar container, because the orioles tend to ignore the nectar and go for the jelly. That's what they like the best. I live in the west and have seen two species use it--Bullocks and Hooded. Last year, the first year I had this feeder, it only attracted the Bullocks. This year I bought a second feeder, and now we have Hoodeds as well. I highly recommend having two of these great feeders, because even though they're easy to clean, the birds eat the jelly so fast that with only one feeder, I was filling it almost daily. Now I can go a couple of days without filling it. I tried the recommended orange last year, and it didn't attract the orioles. Only when I removed the orange, did I start to see the birds, and they visited the feeder all summer . After breeding, the fledglings came with their parents. I think I might have some of the yearlings from last years nest this year!

I own several oriole feeders, but I especially like the Oriolefest feeder because it holds THREE kinds of oriole food! 1) You can fill it with nectar. 2) You can put an orange half on the top. 3) You can fill the pockets on the top with grape jelly. My Bullock's orioles seem to like the grape jelly the best. The finches eat a bit of jelly too. Hummingbirds will sip a bit of the nectar. Oriole nectar is the same as hummingbird nectar - You use 1 part sugar to 4 parts warm water. For reloading the jelly pockets fast, I use a squeeze bottle of grape jelly. For cheaper refills, I put some grape jelly from a jar in some warm water on the stove to thin it a bit, let it cool, then refill my squeeze bottle. Orioles are colorful and beautiful. I like how they hang onto the pole to eat jelly! They have a pecking order to their feeding, so I bought a second feeder and hung it a small distance from the first. This came in handy when their babies started showing up! Their nesting habits and migration is fascinating! Be sure to read about them. Hang some orange cloth or clothing out to draw their eyes when you see the first migratory birds in the spring showing up at your bird bath or water dish. My feeder even brought me a rare black and red Orchard oriole! The top of the Oriolefest feeder lifts off for easy cleaning. I use soap and water and a dish washing brush to make fast work of cleaning. I hang the feeder out farther, so it is not directly over my deck - so I don't have to clean up the deck very often. A high wind blew my feeder down once, and it broke one of the perches. A glob of hot glue fixed it right up. If you like to feed orioles, or have never fed them before, the Oriolefest feeder is a very good choice!

After the super bloom ended here in coastal Southern California, the bees found my old oriole feeder and took over! After reading reviews on Amazon I took a chance on this brand. The bees still come, but they are manageable with a hack or two. Like other reviewers, I found the hanging pole to be slightly bent so the feeder hangs lopsided. I decided to use this to my advantage. Where it hangs low and the nectar is closer to the ports, I've filled those two ports with bits of cotton ball and covered them with orange painter's tape. The remaining two open ports are where the feeder hangs tilted up, so the nectar is too far away for the bees. Of course, you must use the included bee guards. They are the little clear rubber caps that come with the feeder. They cover the ports from the underside of the cover. If you don't use them, the feeder will fill up with drowned bees and attract more. I find that having two ports open is plenty for my hooded orioles as they only come singly or in pairs. Also, this feeder is much easier to clean than others that use a bottle, and covering two of the ports allows me to use only two bee guards at a time so the set they sent will last longer in case the bee guards stretch out or go missing. Sadly, if bees are around, don't bother with jelly. I haven't yet discovered a solution for jelly feeders. 😕

This oriole feed works best for me. My CA ORIOLES don't want to deal with the hanging oranges ...they just want the jelly. I don't even put the liquid in the reservoir because than they are fighting off bees. So I ONLY use Grape Jelly.

We've been using this oriole feeder for roughly 7 years. We've never failed to attract orioles with this feeder. This year we have 4 orioles at the feeder. When we knocked the feeder to the ground and broke it harvesting oranges from our orange tree, I went to the local hardware store to try to replace it. That store only carried fancier glass oriole feeders that lacked the indentations for jelly and a spot for an orange. In my experience, the jelly really is the key to attracting orioles. They like the orange second and the nectar third. Despite my misgivings, I let myself be talked into the expensive glass oriole feeder, which only holds nectar. The orioles stopped coming to the feeder. Before we found this feeder, we had used other types of feeders as well, but not one ever attracted a single oriole. Back to the tried and true. Cheap and cheerful, as my sister-in-law likes to say. Sometimes the feeder attracts bees, etc., but the birds don't seem to mind and neither do we. Orioles are such beautiful birds and we're not allergic to bees, so this isn't a big issue for us. But I'll be interested to try the mineral oil tip that other purchasers have posted to see if that deters bees.

For what it is, it works well. However, as with most feeders of the flat design, it doesn't seal well and tips a lot. So it's not great in the wind or for heavy bird visits. Other than that, it-s great. I improved it by using a 3D printer and printed a TPU gasket to slow liquid food loss.

This is my third feeder and the only one I will buy. The feeding holes are larger which makes it easy for feeding both Hummers and Orioles. The built in trays for grape jelly feeds both Orioles and smaller birds like Finches and other birds. Was surprised to see them going after the jelly. This feeder is sturdy and has lasted me for quite a few years. It hangs in the sun all day with no shade and the reason I had to replace it was the plastic part where the metal hook screws into broke into small pieces and therefor couldn’t be glued back together. The best way to clean this feeder is to leave the metal hook screwed into the plastic port and just lift off the feeding tray, This will save wear and tear on the plastic part that holds the metal hook and even though the threads are metal, the surrounding part is still plastic and in my opinion, the manufacturer needs to make this port metal which would make it less prone to breakage. Aside from that problem, it’s a good feeder and the birds really do enjoy it.

I use a number of oriole feeders and by far, this is the best. The trays allow for a generous amount of jelly and the perches allow the oriole to feed while enjoying a good resting area. This feeder is my most active oriole feeder. The water opening provides good ant deterrence. A nice feeder to attract orioles to your backyard.

I have struggled for years to find an oriole feeder that isn’t a challenge to maintain. So far, this is the closest I’ve come. As other reviews point out there are occasional issues to be overcome such as insect attraction and cleaning, but compared to most other oriole feeders I have used this model is the least problematic. I’ll give this one a 4 out of 5 recommendation after a season of use.
