Great for siblings
I ordered this to go along with the Kettler Kettrike Oceana Tricycle which is the cheapest model they make that accepts the tandem insert. The Oceana is blue and silver rather than red/blue like the more expensive versions and I was concerned that this insert might look odd on the trike since it's made to match the red/blue models. No need to worry, it just looks like a colorful kids' toy. The only thing that really doesn't match is the red seat. The seat is a breeze to insert and take out again. It literally takes seconds. Also, I'd read other reviews that with the tandem insert, the child in front had to sit in the farthest forward position, a problem when you want the oldest, tallest child in front to pedal and steer. I don't know if Kettler redesigned some things but this is NOT a problem for us. Both the front and rear seats can be adjusted with the Oceana/tandem combo we purchased. We have the front seat adjusted as far back as it will go for our 4 yr old daughter and the back adjusted forward for our almost 2 year old son. They have been having an absolute ball riding around the neighborhood together! The Oceana model does not have the rear navigation system, but so far this has not been an issue for us as the 4 year old steers just fine. I just use the push bar to give a little extra help with the speed or when the 4 yr old's legs get tired, but it's actually a lot easier for walks around the neighborhood than a stroller since it's mostly kid powered. One tip for assembly: I had a bear of a time getting the yellow rubber tips on the handlebars. I coated them with a bit of cornstarch and they slid on with ease. I know it seems like a lot to spend on a second seat for a tricycle but judging from the amount of fun my children have been having and how much easier it is to take for a walk than one in a stroller and one on a tricycle (constantly running into the stroller, of course), I'd say this is definitely worth the money!

great for older/younger kids combo
As some reviewers have said, this works with an older child who can guide the trike. I have a 3 yr old and a 16 month old and they love it! They used to fight over who would ride the trike to the park. So I bought the insert. ...And peace was restored! I do help my son with some pushing when he gets tired, but he does all the manuvering. I agree with other reviews, once you have the attachment its very hard to control it yourself. ...( had to do it once when the "driver"aka the 3 yr old went on strike. ...not fun) I DID had a hard time putting it togheter and the oil to have the handles slide in was a lot of help. You have to make sure you have the right trike so you can attach it, and yes the seats are different colors, but still looks good. I don't mind the lack of seat belt since the younger one is the one that really needs it at the time... bottom line yes love it super fun and well made don't use it with kids who can't "drive it" themselves

Kids love it, but it's a bit short
We bought this insert to go on an Air Navigator. As other reviewers have mentioned, not all Kettler trikes can use this insert. Check with the manufacturer's site, e.g. [...] to be sure. My one complaint with this product is that it is too short. This insert connects between your existing seat and your existing handlebars, so the red seat pictured here becomes the front seat. The trouble is that the insert, when positioned for maximum leg length of the pedaler, is at a shorter distance then when the trike without the insert is set up for maximum leg length. So imagine your older child, who needs to be in front because he/she can pedal, and the younger is in back. It makes sense that the older child needs more leg room, so you would expect at least that the insert should give you the same maximum leg length to the front rider as the trike normally does when you remove the insert. Sadly this is not the case. Maybe it sets up differently on other Kettrikes, but on the Air Navigator, this is how it is. I think this is a most unfortunate design flaw. That said, it is not a show-stopper. There is still enough room to pedal, but it is obviously suboptimal. The kids love it.

Kettler Tandem insert so fun!
I had a Kettler trike for my two older children and loved the well-constructed, durable trike. When our twins came along, I was thrilled to find Kettler made a tandem insert. The tandem was easy to install and my twins (two years old) love it. I thought they would fight over who was in front, but they both take turns and seem to prefer the back seat (because the Kettler bell I bought works better than the no-name bell I have on the front seat.) Anytime we take the tandem out we draw lots of attention - no one has seen a double trike before. My twins aren't old enough to steer the trike yet (that ususally happens about age three) so it is tricky to turn corners. With a single Kettler trike you can pop it up to turn it. I read many reviews of people that had broken their trike when they tried to pop it up. I lift the back of the trike up and slide it side to side to turn it. It is a lot of work, but my boys love going out on their bike so much it is worth it. Once they learn to steer it will be a lot easier to take them out.

Great for closely spaced siblings!
We got this to use with our Air Navigator once our one year old started getting jealous of big sister on the trike while she was confined to the stroller. What a great addition to our trike! Baby sister rides along happily in the back while big sis does all the peddling and takes her along for the ride. We love it and use it several times a week. When we do only want to use it with one of the girls, it's pretty easy to convert back to a single and vice versa once you get the hang of it. I would point out that it does not come with a seat belt kit, so be aware that if you want both kids belted you'll need to purchase that too. We have been fine with the older child not strapped in (nearly 3 yr old), so that was ok with us. I do recommend buying a second bell for the rear seat if you have it for the front child. Then they can happily ring their bell along with big sib as they ride along.

Color is deceiving!
Great product. No complaint. One thing to note: all of these pictures are deceiving. The only colors available for this tandem insert is the red bar and blue seat. The color in these pictures (blue bar, red seat) is NOT AVAILABLE. Please Amazon, change the picture to reflect the product.

What was Kettler thinking?!
This seat is for the rider/peddler in front, which is the bigger kid. My 5-year-old daughter's legs are too long to maneuver the pedals; her knees bump against the handlebars. The seat is tiny. A child younger than 5 wouldn't have the strength or coordination to operate the trike with another rider in tow, which makes me question who Kettler intended to use this seat??? Useless product, but excellent quality nonetheless. Bottom line: Don't waste your money.

Double your trike fun!
This is a helpful attachment. We have the happy navigator trike with a push bar & seat belt and added this insert to accommodate our two boys, 4 and 2 y/o. Easily installed in minutes, just screws in place, this is a solid piece of equipment that allows my kids to take a neighborhood walk/ride together. The front passenger is the pedaler, while the rear passenger is just along for the ride. Good for the younger kids that may not be able to pedal yet. With the added pushbar, I have more control over hills, braking, and giving an extra push if the pedaling becomes too tough for my oldest. I also installed a seat belt on my trike for the benefit of my youngest. That way he's not trying to pop off while we are all in motion. Your front passenger should be capable of steering well; because once you've added this tandem seat, trying to steer using the push bar becomes a little difficult. Typically with a one seater and the push bar, you can pop a wheelie to help steer, but with two seats and a pushbar, popping a wheelie will not work as well. My pushbar now has a nice bend in it from doing this. Happily, my 4 y/o is now steering well, and we are enjoying this tandem trike seat immensely. "Look, Mom! I'm a good driver!"
