Large Vortex

I use it in a Kamado 23". It allows cooking in smaller quantities and gets a very direct output heat source.

I have an XL Big Green Egg and the large Vortex is an excellent fit for the BGE and does a fantastic job of making super crispy wings. Everybody in my family wants me to grill wings on the BGE with the vortex now.I've also used it to sear steaks and it can brown and put very nice grill marks in about a minute. I mainly use the reverse sear method (learned it from Meathead) where I grill my steaks slow and slow then finish them at the end with a super high heat sear and the Vortex works great for that too. It also works great for putting on a sear on your steak at the beginning and then finishing off in indirect heat if you prefer.

This makes my third Vortex, bought one for the Weber and a second for the Egg. The smaller one was not getting hot enough for a good sear on the XL Big Green Egg. The large Vortex works great to get the sear on the Egg!!!! By the way the smaller one works great on the Weber.

This the large vortex..I already have the small and medium vortex and like them so well I wanted a large one for my XL Big Green Egg and Old Smokey grill. Now I have all three sizes. Excellent for chicken wings, searing steaks and I switch to the wide end up and do beer can chickens, pork butts ect.. The large won’t work with a Weber but the medium and small work just fine with it.

I use this in direct heat, with the small opening dead center underneath the Conveggtor. It uses less charcoal, heat does not fluctuate at all. No hotspots.Picture is from a Smobot app. I used it to show how steady the temp holds. Set it and forget it, just like a Treager grill. Before I used this cone the temp would fluctuate wildly.It also makes great stir fry. The direct heat is awesome for getting a wok just ripping hot. It will turn any grill into a competent wok burner.Also good on indirect mode for making pizzas.Can't recommend this enough.

I just used the vortex to smoke chicken wings for Super Bowl. It fit perfectly in my XL Big Green Egg. The narrow end focused the heat in a cone right in the middle and created a convection oven effect. It created very high, indirect heat. Only downside was the edges of the steel are rough and could cut if you are not careful. Otherwise, a bulletproof product.

Perfect fit for the Weber kamado grill. Well made.

The Vortex arrived unwrapped, scratched up, and bent out of shape (the openings are more oval than round). I tried to bend it back but was unable to get it to be perfectly round.I expect something this expensive and made in the U.S.A. to have a higher quality. Ironically, the Chinese knockoff I bought for comparison came in perfect condition :/
