i have a myd older 1977 s mtd part number is 723-0155 will this cross and work do u know mtd tractor is 146-990a

Your Model # should be 146-990A. This would be a 1976 model. ( The third digit is the year ) The Stens # 125-153 is for a 1-1/2" neck with a 7-7/8" tank depth. It was designed for Simplicity tractors. If your old unit is the same size it could work. Messick's shows a 723-0155 gas cap/gauge for a Cub Cadet priced @ $19.51. But it gives no detail as to size . The MTD part number 723-0155 is correct for your tractor but it is no longer available.Stens has a web sight that shows size information on the various units that they have. I had to modify the Stens 125-153 to make it work on an old Dynamark mower. I hope this information will be of some help.

Do these keep working? I've bought two factory replacements and the float no longer floats after a few weeks.

Dry it out in the hot sun for a few days. If it is "waterlogged" with gas, the gas will evaporate and the float should shrivel up a lot. Even if it doesn't, the float will work for a short while as it is dry. If it does not, the gauge needle may be stuck or egged and wallowed out on it's mounting. I have had lots of trouble with old units or other brands, but no trouble with Stens replacements and have bought many. It could be a bad batch - contact Stens - they may want it back to investigate.

Will this gauge work with a simplicity citation?

Not sure? We put it on a Simplicity Sovereign. Doesn't read quite to bottom of tank, but that helps me from running dry.

Stems replacement gas cap for AC/Simplicity lawn tractors

This is a reproduction part. Top fits good, gauge works nice. Only problem, if you want to call it a problem, is the original is designed for a 10 inch deep tank and this part is set for a 7 inch deep tank. So when this gauge reads Empty, there is actually 1/3 of a tank of gas still in the tank. Positive, you'll never run out of gas.

Worked great on my old Simplicity tractor. I could actually fill the tank without gas splashing on my leg! Unfortunately the transmission blew up immediately after I bought this :/... oh well.

Work great just for a fuel cap. The clear plastic turns yellow pretty quick and the gauge part on some of them is inaccurate.
