really activates the top
Superb sound and tension on the g .80 and the d .105... I was really unhappy with rotosound rs4000's g string it had a wine and twang to it that was unacceptable at least on my cheap plywood bass... maybe the rosewood fingerboard wasn't perfectly true on my bass... the extra pull on the bridge via tension really activates the top of the bass making the e a d & g all louder... I have kept the rs4000 e and a for now but maybe when the g & d finish stretching I might try the "a" maybe even the "e"... I'm extremely happy even if I end up using only two of the strings. Rotosound should be taking notes these beat their g and d any day... the texture makes it easy to grab when drag triplet playing... the texture feels a little ruff to my left hand which is good... feels like dry gut... great strings.... very happy

These are great strings, I have been using them for about ...
These are great strings, I have been using them for about 6 months. I use the 170, 155, 105, 80 which I found had the most uniform tension across the strings. They have a softer attack which is more muted compared to other types of strings. I read alot of reviews and I was unsure if the E and A would be strong and loud enough with the rest of the set. I found that the A was perfect but the E was just a little weak on volume and sustain, but the notes on the E String are still clear and pronounced and the volume / sustain was not a problem for me. This was my experience with my Engelhardt 3/4 bass.

Good feeling strings, low volume performance
I love the feel and sound of these strings. Just know that if you are coming off of steel, the drop in volume is significant. I frequently play in situations where I cannot be amplified, so the drop in volume is noticeable. Having a selection of gauges to dial in the tension and feel is a bonus.

Great Strings and a great price
I put on the 4 middle gauge ones like they recommended. Only had to make the tail piece slot for the .155 E a little bit wider. The bigger fat .170 will need the winding peg hole widened a bit if I use it in the future. I’m glad they give you a choice in the set with the 6 string set. Also love they’re made in USA. Would buy these again.

Not as successful as I had hoped.
I tried to replace my 10yo gut strings on my Chinese made Stentor instrument with these strings which had good reviews and recommendations. However over several hours I had great difficulty fitting them to my particular bass. I tried the middle 4 and had to enlarge the slots in the tailpiece. The space around the winders was very cramped causing more difficulty to get a good fit. Then 1st and 4th strings were rubbing against the side of the cavity. This was hard to avoid and due to their rough surface there was excessive friction against the wood causing excessive strain on the winders. Once fitted they felt too slack with the A string striking the adjacent D string giving me two notes at once. So I attempted to fit the thickest 4 strings which was even more difficult and then when bringing the G string up to pitch I wasn't watching and the bridge collapsed due in part to the rough surface of the strings causing too much friction against the bridge. (I'd put graphite in the slots). By then I'd had enough and since I have two gigs this week I decided tp play safe and put the old strings back on. I'm not a luthier but someone with reasonable basic skills but obviously not enough. I don't doubt that these are very good strings nor do I hold the manufacturers responsible. I know another very well regarded bass player who likes them, however I guess they're just not for me. Pity because my partner loved the orange colour.

Highly recommend
Just put them on my bass and love them. Using the bumped strings. Sound and playability is amazing. They are also easy to install. Fit my bridge with no modifications necessary. Highly recommend. Great budget strings that sound great playing rockabilly and psychobilly.

I'm not a huge bow player but will agree that the texture is very good for arco in the little that I do
I use these for pizz and slap and they definitely have that shorter attack, darker gut sound. The main thing to note is they are much softer on the hand and especially on the fingerboard which is important if you slap at all. I put some scoring on my fingerboard slapping with some metal ribbon wound strings and with these I both am kinder to the fingerboard and to my hands. I'm not a huge bow player but will agree that the texture is very good for arco in the little that I do. One thing about tuning an upright. Its very important to tension them slowly and especially if you play them like I do with the larger guage size, like guts. You should either use graphite to lubricate where they slide over the bridge or gently nudge the string over the bridge by pressing back with your thumb on the bridge. Otherwise its easy to pull your bridge toward the neck of the bass as you get up to tension, but this is true of all bass strings. Also because these are fairly soft and "rubbery" there is about a 4 or 5 day period while they stretch in when you first put them on. But thats true for real guts, as I understand, as well.
