Can't go wrong with this series
I grew up reading this series and when my child turned 8, I was eager to share these delightful books with him. At 8, some things were hard to understand and he didnt know what every word meant. But thats OK! Even a good thing as he is learning new words. The story line is just as wonderful as I remembered it. My child and I are slowly making out way through the series.

A good read!
Redwall is full of adventure, courage, and true camaraderie! it reminds me so much of Robin Hood. What a fun book to read! I loved the rich descriptions of the food and the world of the Redwall abbey, it helped paint a picture of warmth and of a home full of loved ones worth fighting for. This is great adventure in two parts. One of Matthias on an adventure to find the sword of the great warrior mouse Martin. The other is of the many efforts of the abbey creatures protecting their loved ones and home from the books villain, Cluny and his horde. At the end the two parts come together in an unforgettable battle! I loved the villain Cluny the Scourge, he yelled and threatened and said some of the craziest things. He was also completely relentless. What an unforgettable character. Brother Methusala was also a favorite. He was a wise old mouse with a sharp mind and tongue. He reminded me of my Grandfather. I loved any scene he was in. Wonderful book to read and full of imagination.

Bitter-sweet Action-Adventure for All Ages
I bought the first three of these as Kindle Editions only to realize a few days later that the Redwall audio books are in the current "Summer Reading" sale at Audible (ends on the 27th of August). I had started reading the first book and was impressed, so I bought the first three audio books. Wow, this full cast recording moves pretty quickly long this action-packed adventure tale. The descriptions are amazing, especially the ones that have anything to do with food. As a young-at-heart listener, I enjoyed this much more than I actually thought I would (I wasn't totally unfamiliar with it, I'd seen a few episodes of the animated series before Netflix pulled it). There are lot of great themes here: bravery in the face of adversity, friendship, loyalty, and so on. And the villain... Wow, is he one nasty brute (and his followers aren't much better). There is some fantasy violence, along with battle violence. Some characters die (yes, even some of the "good guys"). For parents, I don''t don't think there is anything to be too concerned with on this title. One could always preview it before given to kids, or read or listen to it with them. As far as the narration. At times, it was a bit over-the-top. However, one must remember this is a fantasy adventure written for a younger audience--and thus--recorded for one. I really liked most of the performance. Once in a while, I had to go back a bit because I didn't understand something fully the first time due to accents, but not a whole lot. I do wish there wasn't such a huge rash of gaps in the Audible Editions. When I first counted the remaining ones that were available, I swear I counted sixteen. When I went back over to check out the rest of a few days time, there were fifteen. Since I purchased, one has been removed and I now have a broken library icon on the Kindle Fire and Audible for it. I hope the Audible gaps are eventually filled in. I guess I'll listen where i can and read the other volumes as Kindle Editions otherwise.
