How does it handle larger grapefruits and oranges?

Pomegranates are big and tough, my juicer juiced them with little effort. Oranges and grapefruits should be no problem at all.

Are any of the components that touch the fruit aluminum?

it looks like its all stainless steel but i didn't see it written anywhere. you can probably look it up in the manufacturers website?

What is the upper cone made of? Meaning, the non-detachable pressing down part. It seems to be deteriorating, with gray metallic particle smudge.

I'm pretty sure the cone is stainless steel. I noticed those particle smudges too.. I think they are coming from above in the mechanical elbows of the press. There are plastic washers there and allen screws which you might be able to take apart and clean and re-lubricate. I haven't tried yet, but I don't think anything is actually deteriorating. But it seems something in production definitely wasn't cleaned prior to assembly. Meanwhile I cover my citrus with a washcloth because the particles get in the juice. Unfortunate, but hopefully there's a fix.
