While fancy and sophisticated foods continue to grow in popularity, ask most people what their favorite foods are and the answer will invariably be classic comfort foods: lasagna, meat loaf, mac and cheese, and cake. Unfortunately, most people think that having diabetes means the days of enjoying these hearty classics are long gone, and that their favorite foods are a thing of the past. Author Robyn Webb shows that healthy eating doesn't have to mean giving up on favorite foods! Diabetes can be overwhelming, but it doesn't mean reinventing the wheel when it comes to cooking. Just a tweak here and there and familiar foods can remain favorites, guilt-free, and enjoyed every day. The American Diabetes Association Diabetes Comfort Food Cookbook creates a ยgo-toโ collection of updated comfort foods for families that need to cook nutritionally sound and diabetic-friendly meals that will satisfy and soothe the souls of the member (or members) of the family with diabetesยand do the same for the rest of the family. Pictures are great. Recipes are Good. Too many international "comfort foods." Was looking for American comfort foods.
Nice cookbook. Though I bought to make recipes for my husband. Too many international foods. He likes plain American fare. But it is very nice. Good recipes. Presented well with tips for diabetics in exchanges and the such. The pictures make you hungry just looking at them.

Great for Newly Diagnosed Diabetic & their Family
Our son was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. When this book arrived he began thumbing through it and was very excited to see many of his favorite meals included, classic Hummus, Creamy Deviled Eggs, Everyday Taco Salad, Roast Chicken, Chicken (sloppy) Joes, Mac 'n' Cheese, Chicken Cacciatore, Grilled Pork and Cheese Quesadilla, Indian Lamb Curry, Classic Free Form Meatloaf, Double Chocolate Brownies, & Old Fashion Peanut Butter Cookies. Most of the ingredients are typical pantry items with a few new items that ought to be in a diabetics pantry. There are many "extras" in brown boxes through out the book like, Fast fixes for Rice, A Little Chocolate Goes a Long Way, How to Saute the Right way. This book helps us know that we can learn to adapt our usual recipes, eat flavorful meals, help him, and us, eat right. Excited to start trying them.

Not what I was looking for.
This is probably a great book for people who don't associate the word "Comfort" with just plain home cooking. It certainly has some great sounding recipes, but not the type of food I call "comfort food." Probably because I'm from the South, and we look at comfort food as entirely different from what this book calls "Comfort" food. I'm sure other people would find wonderful recipes in this book; I'm definitely NOT saying it is a bad book.....just not what I am looking for.

Not just for Diabetics!
I purchased this book after a new diagnosis of diabetes for a member of the household. Hearing "diabetic", I assumed we were doomed to eating boring foods...WRONG! This book has wonderful, easy to follow, easy to cook recipes, giving you the diabetic exchanges in every one and all keeping within normal range of carbs for a diabetic. Although geared toward a diabetic watching their carb count, they are delicious meals you can make for the whole family. Recommed the book highly.

At last something that the whole family will enjoy!
I was so happy to finally find a diabetic cookbook where the recipes are not only delicious but also enjoyable for the whole family. My husband eats mostly vegetarian, and my daughter is the world's pickiest eater. They both love anything I have made from this book. If I had any quibbles, it would be that the recipes take awhile to prepare so it is sometimes a challenge on a weeknight to get food on the table in a reasonable amount of time. But it is easy to make some things ahead of time and combine everything later. This is a book for how America likes to eat - I no longer feel as if I'm depriving myself of food that normal people get to eat!
