Can this product be used to test if nickel is in water (i.e. has nickel leached into water from a container it was in)?

I put it directly on several nickel objects and it did not detect nickel.

Will these work with any cotton swab? Or is there a chemical reagent on the included cotton swabs?

As far as I know ow any cotton swab is fine. The chemicals only react with metal

Does it have an expiration date?

there is no expiration date on Nickel Alert. Just keep the cap tightly closed! Mike Dow, Owner of NoNickel.com

How to fully clean the solution off of products that have been tested?

Just water or a damp rag will do the trick if there is any residue.
