My 11-year old daughter got this for Christmas after seeing her cousin's kit last summer. Since opening it, she's raided my fabric and ribbon stash and cut out several other swatches to use with the little mannequins and she's come up with some very creative outfits. It's a clever idea. I was frustrated when trying to pick out which kit to buy as they are kind of pricey individually, but because you can add your own fabrics, one kit is really all you need. One of our mannequins broke off the bottom stand, but I was able to cut the remaining part of the stand to fit the mannequin so it still works - just a little shorter than the other one. Also, we had to cut through the back plastic on the mannequins so the fabric could be inserted. The markings were there, but the plastic hadn't been removed. Overall, I'd recommend this for the budding designer.

Daughter loves it

For $10, it was worth it. My daughter and her friends have fun designing clothes with this. You have to realize that you are getting 3 mannequin's and some fabric. That's it. We knew this going in because a friend had a similar kit. A lot of people wonder if you can make barbie clothes with this..... you can if you have patience. The mannequin's have slots that hold the fabric in, so that is really just for design purposes. If you want to translate that into an outfit for a barbie, you have to take the general design and adapt it to make barbie clothes. You have to have patience and basic sewing skills for this. Kids have a lot of fun with it, and you can make clothes for dolls if you take extra steps and realize the limitations of this kit.

It broke within two minutes of my child handling it

Daughter was super excited to try this but quickly became frustrated and disappointed. Both mannequins were defective. The back of one was completely sealed and the other was partially sealed. I tried to force it open with a knife but almost cut myself and decided to return it instead. This defect rendered the item useless since you have to tuck the fabric into the opening that runs down the back of each mannequin. I’m giving two stars because it would have been a great set if it wasn’t defective: (
