so this antenna will only work if its on a piece of metal ?

It will work fine without it. Less digital signal breakup attached to metal. I installed one on top of my bookcase. Experiment by moving it around. Try attaching it on top of your DVD player or cable box. Bought 3 DTA240 and 1 DTA207. No issues so far ( 2 months ). I was skeptical, but they work better than my RCA rabbit ears ( 32 channels ) - DTA240 ( 51 channels ). Your location might be different.

The antenna seems well made, however it wasn't able to pick up any channels, where one of the flat indoor digital antennas found 11 channels. ???

with all indoor antennas its all about Location, Location, Location because you have to move it around to lock on to a signal. also the directions tell you that the antenna works best when it is attached magnetically to a piece of metal, but I got good reception even without doing that. its not the best portable antenna on the market but it really doesn't matter because its all about LOCATION with any antenna!

Does this come with a longer cord?

Don't know. Nevertheless the cord it had is long enough for most house use.

I just receive "DTA 240," connect to TV (VIZIO 60") but it says "no channel in master list" HELP ?

Press menu on remote control and go to settings. Press automatic channel search under antenna not cable. It takes a while to search, around 10 minutes or more. Make sure antenna is connected, after search is completed highlight done and press ok. Read your Vizio manual for further instructions, instruction varies by models. Stick a piece of metal under the antenna. Good Luck, Trekkie888
