Worked great for connect PC to Maruson UPS, but needs a an adapter cable to plug into female DB9.
This cable allowed me to connect my Maruson UPS to my tower PC. The only bad thing is it come with 2 nuts that are not removable, which cause this cable to not be able to plug into a female DB9, so I had to buy and additional cable to connect the DB9 on the back of the UPS. This double-coversion/online UPS is a "sleeper"... the most inexpensive online UPS that actually works, including having power management software. The worst part is there is no/very little support and it is a bit noisy, but what you get is a UPS that will work with generators for a very good price. It comes with a USB-to-DB9 cable but that didn't work. My tower PC never detected it when plugged in. So I found that I needed 2 additional cables: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A6GIUZA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AHYJWWG The 2nd one is the main electronic conversion cable but for some reason it has screw blocks that prevent from plugging into the back of the UPS, so I had to buy the 1st one to adapt it so it could connect to the DB9 at the back of the UPS. Then I got the Winpower G2 software working on Windows 10 (for some reason Maruson buries the link, so you have to View source on their web page and find the download link). It took me a while to get the G2 software to find the UPS (the documentation is bad), but I think what made it work is there is a button that allows you to download a license and then you have to import the license file. After that the G2 software was able to find the UPS (in my case on COM7 port), and it is actually pretty nice. So it takes a bit of work to get everything working, but this is a helluva deal. I've already had one "event" where we lost main power, and it takes about a minute for the generator to kick in, but this UPS kept my tower running fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A6GIUZA

It works even with older DB9 Serial cables
Price was a little more, but this was one of the few cables that would work when updating the firmware on my older Davis Vantage Pro 2 Wireless Weather Console. Drivers and instructions were straight forward and available on the website. Very pleased high quality cable.

Not perfect, but pretty good...
I broke this product review up into 5 pieces: design, build, functionality, misc, and summary. There's a TL;DR at the bottom for those who are interested. Design: I always prefer to have more information over less, so the status lights are good, but I would prefer that there were different colors. All indicator lights are all amber which kinda bleeds between indicator windows. It's really not that bad though, but I think different colors would help resolve the issue. The TX/RX lights are a tad dim on mine, unknown if this is a standard problem or if I got a few poorly made LED's in the mix. The blue glow from the RS-232 end is pleasant and a nice indicator to know that the board is receiving power from the USB connection. Build: Quality wise, this product is okay. The plastic exterior covering for the RS-232 side is a bit cheap feeling and I'm concerned that it may not hold up well in the relatively hostile environment that a data center or server room often is. The black area where the indicator lights are visible feels like it's just a clear plastic sheet, so someone who has huge burly thumbs and no sense of his/her own strength may accidentally punch that film inward. Functionality: I tested this device with a Cisco 1841 and 2811 and it worked flawlessly just as expected. The additional driver CD was not needed as my Windows 7 PC picked it right up and assigned it COM6, and away I could PuTTY. The TX/RX lights blink when sending commands and receiving feedback from the routers, so they seem to function as expected. As mentioned above, the only functional change that would have been nice is to have different color lights. Misc: Not really a product flaw, but the product description could use a tad bit of work though. It's not misleading, but it's a bit lacking. I had to go to the Questions/Answers section to find out the length, which is long enough for my uses. It also would have been nice to know the LED colors before purchasing. I like the cable material, the outer cable jacket is clear and is nice and flexible. Summary: Overall the product is great and I would recommend it to others who have a need for RS-232 connections, don't have serial ports on their modern computers, and are into things that both light up and blink.

Didn't brick my pi
It works as expected, a cheaper generic device burned up my pi so I had to replace it and got this for the rs232 connection. Considering the cost of a new pi this is a good value.

Worked great and didn't need a special driver
Worked great for connecting my Windows 11 laptop to an ACP SU5000RMXLT5U UPS. Plugged in the adapter, the laptop beeped acknowledging the connection, and then I linked to the UPS to change some setting and monitor performance. No special driver was needed. Just what ever was on the factory laptop.

I bought this RS232 because I need a laptop to communicate to my Singer Quantum XL-6000 Sewing/Embroidery machine and it had the 9 pin Null cable (and no USB) which I need to attach the RS232 to so I could transfer embroidery designs to my sewing/embroidery machine. The problem being they were made to communicate to Windows XP and I needed to upgrade to a laptop, so currently running it on Windows 8, now. It was easy to install with the CD disc they sent, it had the manual and instructions and all the different drivers that I would need and easy to install. So I am one Happy Camper these days. Thank You GearMo. The only thing is that, GearMo had other RS232 Adapters but on Amazon.com not Amazon.ca. They were cheaper with the same FTDI ChipSet I needed but were not available in Canada. That would be my only complaint, so I had to spend more to do the same job. It is a step up from the other Adapaters though, so if you like Flashy Lights, you're good to go!

This is about my fourth USB-RS232 cable, give or take, and the only one that seems to actually work without question. Tested on Windows, Linux, and Android; Works great across the board. It's a tad pricey, but cheaper cables have given me nothing but headaches.

Great product and design. The LED indicators really helps out when trying to determine if you are properly communicating to the device you are trying to manage, IE router or switch. Helped me realized that I had set the wrong baud rate in a terminal session into a Cisco ASA5505. Loaded under Windows 7 64bit without issue. Nothing negative to say. Highly recommend.

This product has the FTDI USB to RS-232 IC which I prefer for no messing about use cases. I also wanted LEDs for each RS-232 pin to aid in troubleshooting work, etc. The use case is for industrial RTUs and PLCs to dial-up modem and to provide serial access to devices with console ports such as Ethernet network switches and firewalls (Cisco) as well as Palo Alto Networks firewalls (PA-3020 and PA-200). Used with Windows 7 computers every time. The drawback for this product from GearMo is the price from Amazon to Canada is much higher than within Amazon USA. Similar products are available for less if you are willing to do your own S&H, brokerage, taxes, etc. if not and are willing to buy it at the listed price you won't regret it. Always check the FTDI UK website for drivers (another reason to choose the FTDI powered USB to RS-232 products) as they are maintained from Win98 to Server 2016, MacOSes, Android, etc along with design notes, etc for you electronics people. Packaging from GearMo is fine not overdone though one day hopefully they will switch to paper based containers and do away with the plastic wrappers, etc.
