I was a little dubious after reading the negative responses about the latches, but went ahead and ordered. I agree the latches on the lid are not the sturdiest, but there are handles on the ends of the box that you can use to pick up the unit and the latches only need to close the lid. I run a lawn mower repair shop and our trailer sits outside, so didn't want a winch to set out in the weather all the time. I have used it several times to load large zero turn units. Works great. I use one of the included straps to wrap around the tongue of the trailer and attach to the unit with the included clevis pins. I run the winch rope through the pulley and back to the front of the trailer. I attach the second strap to the unit and to the hook on the pulley. I carry a jump pack to try to jump start the mower and if that doesn't work, power the winch with it to pull the mower onto the trailer. Pulls very heavy units on the trailer easily.

I have a 580 lb. horse drawn carriage that I pull up ramps into a large van. I tried at least 4 of those "portable winches" that cost from $60 to $100. Even though these are rated at 2000 pounds and should exceed the requirements, in my experience, they were fragile and often broke after just a few pulls. The last one regurgitated some of its internal parts before going into whine mode that meant no pulling ever again.i This is not ok. I need something more dependable. And less likely to cause bleedy hands from frayed wires. This Superwinch Winch2Go is rated at 4000 lbs pull. and has the cable (not wires). I have tried it out several times and am very pleased with how well it does its job. A small problem was the power leads were too short to reach my battery. So I purchased a heavy duty jumper cable (4 AWG) and lengthened them with that. Even though I forgot to wear the supplied gloves, it was a minor joy to not hurt my hands with this cable. Given the choice, I very much recommend this over the wire winches. The configuration of the box lended itself well to my anchoring requirements. I am pleased with the quality of everything in this well-thought-out winch. Now I don't worry about being in the wilderness and being unable to load my carriage.

This thing tangles up on itself constantly and cannot perform even its most basic function. Tried to get my truck out of a slight ditch on a down hill facing very icy road using a tree downhill and across the road at maybe 30º. I even had the truck in gear and all four tires turning and the line still snapped immediately. DO NOT RELY on this to help you when you need it. It will break and you will be disappointed. This was the second incident. The first time we used it was for pulling up a 100lb pack of wild game on a steep pack out which it pulled it about 3/4 of the way then got all bound up on itself because the way the line was spooling up in a random mess on the inside. Its just not a well thought out device when it comes to actually using it. Seems great in theory but whoever made it has obviously never had to use it in a real world situation. And unless you have some of your own connectors or know how to tie good knots, the crap it comes with also has fitting purpose I can figure. Check this one off your list and move on to something else. Its worthless.

I love this winch. Everything is nicely contained in the toolbox and protected from the weather when not in use. Installation was simple I bolted it to the deck of my trailer to an oversized 1/4” steel plate that was bolted to the trailer frame. I then bolted the winch to the steel plate and placed a second 1/4” steel plate under the decking to make it even more secure. It works great and has plenty of power. The synthetic rope is a little more expensive but very easy to handle. I’d give this 6 * if I could

Only problem I see so far is the plastic latches to close the lid. Why would you skimp there. I hope the warranty will stand behind them. It seems to have ample pulling power, portability and quality except for the latches on the box. I mounted mine on a pre-fab mounting plate that fits a 2” receiver hitch.i can use it with my 6X4 Gator or my Jeep Liberty. You can hook the winch to a tree, drive a stake in the ground or another vehicle. You just must have a 12 volt power supply within 10 feet of the winch. I opted for the synthetic “rope” so I don’t get skewered by frayed steel cable. Nice unit !

This thing is awesome. I mounted it to the front of my trailer to load and unload my ice fishing house. Works great.

I finally got the chance to use this winch after about 45 days of purchasing .. I actually purchased this to pull vehicles onto my car trailer , alot of vehicles are over 5000lbs but I bought this anyway and decided I would just stick to normal size cars when I needed to use it . Well today not only did I finally use it but I used it ( without) the snatch block ( hook straight to vehicle ) 5000lbs vehicle onto my car trailer and not only did it pull it . But I forgot to put it in neutral and it was dragging the back tires going up the ramp . I was frankly SHOCKED . even then it didn't seem like it was struggling. Once I put the vehicle in neutral. It was like NOTHING for this winch to pull this vehicle that exceedsd its capacity by 1000lbs. So I am highly highly impressed with the power .. I am unable to provide details of the longevity of this winch. But if you think this thing won't pull a vehicle up onto a car trailer . Your wrong. It will do it with out breaking a sweat ..

Pulled a 1/2 ton truck on and off the trailer with all 4 dry rot tires. Worked as promised. Plastic latches are cheesy and makes you want to carry it by the bottom just in case. Very simple to use though.

This will save your back when loading heavy objects into the truck box. Just bring your ramp
