I had my doubts when this arrived, Im an old school guy and was taught years ago the usefulness of Block n Tackle. Reasonable metal construction all sheaves function well. All BnT has a tendency to twist until you get it under load. I especially didnt like the line but that was before I used it. I was quite surprised at the ease of loading this and the weight its moved including a huge tree I was trying to get up a hill, a stuck tractor, subsequently stuck dodge Raider. This thing is sturdy and well made. I ordered 3/8 Manila too replace the twisty nylon but Im holding out to see how long the line last. I hate too say this cause i may jinx myself but I think this might be better then my 80 year old set that finally failed.

As one of the simplest lifting tools known to man this product works great. I was able to stretch a spring safely. For the price it would be difficult to beat. The nuts that help hold the unit together are not held tight with lock nuts so all four of mine where loose. Be careful to check them before putting the unit under load.

I had to hoist my water heater to the attic, 110 LBS. At one point, the heater dropped 1 foot from where I was holding it, at that point I though it was going to hit the ground but the hoist held and I continued to hoist it up safely to the attic. Those 110 LBS had to multiply by at least a factor of 3 I guess, but it held like a champ!

I used this twice to haul up two 250 lbs pigs to slaughter. The pulleys themselves seemed to work without issue, however the rope twisted worse and worse with each use and it made it very difficult to raise the load the closer it got to the top. I'm going to need to restring this with a higher quality rope before the next time I use it.

I have to lift the front of my riding my electric lawn mower and stand it on it's end to clean it and sharpen the blades. But I was using it incorrectly. Once I went thorough the learning curve it lifted it very easily. It works find and worth the cost.

I think on a block and tackle the lifting ratio is = to the number of sheaves - 1. It is true this unit has 8 sheaves but the last one does not participate in the action - it just holds the rope. So at best this is 6:1. Also, the sheaves rotate around fixed bolts without bearings. This means the heavier the load, the more friction of sheaves against axle. I haven't done any tests to see what the effective lifting ratio is. If actually going to be used, I would put vegetable oil on the axles the sheaves turn on - I think that would improve things significantly. That said, I think the product is fairly priced and the parts are of reasonable quality. I bought mine because I'm a grandpa and wanted to demonstrate simple machines to 4-7 year old grandkids.

My pulley system I use to pull up my trailer (folds up in half) broke. This works very well. Trailer has little wheels that when folded in half I can push it up against the wall in my garage. As I get older I had to start using a pulley to do this by myself.

They do not operate smoothly. Obviously nylon is not a good choice to use as your hands will slip. I used it to haul a deer up and she weighed maybe 125 lbs...it was very hard to just get her off the ground. The wheels are plastic so no doubt they will wear fast and part of the problem with pulling. I would recommend looking at paying more money for something that would operate more effectively

Rope is a bit shot, limited lift if using all pulley wheels.Rope is also poor to grip. However worked well, tested to 150 kg.

Bought it for raising/lowering a heavy set of wooden stairs. Not as heavy duty as the previous purchase of 4 pulley unit but certainly lightens the load. Unfortunately there isn't a way to prevent the reverse direction other than tie-ing the rope. Rope is slippery.
