Painting Florals with Gouache: An Introduction to Creating Beautiful Botanical Artwork

This is an excellent book on floral gouache. It’s very well done, lovely paper and very good excersise’s to do but not so simple as you feel juvenile doing them. I’m very pleased with this teaching method ,there are templates in the back of the book to trace though very light.

This book has very detailed instructions. I do buy art books with tutorials and instructions to learn how to draw and paint, and, honestly, this book has the clearest step by step I've ever seen in a book. The artworks ended up being beautiful. As other reviewers have said this is an excellent book to get if you are a beginner or intermediate with gouache.

This book had the clearest step by step instructions I’ve seen in an illustration/painting book in some time. Excellent for beginners but also good projects for people who are intermediates and up and want to shake up their painting routine or hone their skills. I especially appreciated the clear and easy to read color palette for each project and the images showing what your project should look life if following along. Pleased I stumbled across this and will be using it for reference often.

I am learning to paint as a new hobby... not just gouache, but how to paint... I adore this book. Very simple, step by step and really lovely, lovely paintings that come out. Using the paint mixing she recommends doesn't quite work the way I wanted--I often have to add a bit of black to make the colors look more natural and muted and some colors seemed off even from the beginning even though I am using the brand she recommends... (eg. raw umber is not nearly so dark as it seems in her printing)... so be willing to play with color mixing going in, but I am learning a lot and I am having so much fun with it.

Lovely book, I like how she has flowers to trace and paint along with her directions. The colors are muted, natural colors.

Bought this for my 13 year old granddaughter who's a very talented artist and wanted to learn more about how to use gouache. Though the book focuses on how to paint floral images, the instructions are applicable to painting any subject. The writer provides instructions about how to mix paints accurately to get the desired color, and how to hold paintbrushes as well as informing the tools necessary for successful artwork. All the artwork in the book is well drawn. My granddaughter really likes this book.

Love this book. The instructions are detailed. It has improved my gouache painting skills. The designs are beautiful.

I was so excited to get this book since so many people loved it - but I'm so disappointed in the content and format. It's just no a good overview of gouache painting and doesn't deserve the high reviews.

Great book for trying gouache painting

I am just learning to paint and this book is perfect. Straight away gets to painting. Highly recommended for beginners, and one just needs to follow the instructions.
