Is it good for camping?

Depends on how you plan on using it, it's not waterproof and even if you were to wrap it in a zip-lock bag, you still have to deal with the low volume due to the design using 2 AA batteries and the sensitivity of the tuning from a DSP standpoint is less than "ideal" even for a small unit. I'd recommend buying the 3 AA powered Ratakee Model RA02DR as even though it too is not waterproof, it does go loud and has good weak signal reception on AM and it's DSP based as well, it currently is selling for nearly half the price of the Sangean model SR-36 on Amazon. You can also place this Ratakee model in a quart size ziplock bag and it's around the same dimensions as the SR-36, but the digital display is vertically aligned, vice the horizontally aligned analog dial on the SR-36.
