Replacing a 20-Year Favorite — Impressed with KastKing So Far
This one comes with a bit of a story. After more than 20 years of use, my old Daiwa 500 reel finally started giving me trouble this past weekend while trout fishing — jamming and tangling up. It’s been a great reel with a lot of memories, so I’ll try to repair it, but if not, this will be its replacement. I picked up the 500 size to match my St. Croix rod, and based on my experience with KastKing so far, I feel pretty confident in the choice. At this point, I’ve used several of their rods and reels, and I’ve been consistently impressed. This reel continues that trend right out of the box — it feels lightweight, smooth, and well built. The operation is clean, and the reel has a solid feel without being heavy. It looks like a great fit for lighter setups like trout fishing. I haven’t had it out on the water yet, but based on everything I’ve experienced with KastKing so far, I’m expecting it to perform well. This reel is very good, I got the size 500 and it holds up very good with my ultralight. Easily withstands 1-2 pounders with ease. It's perfect with 5 lb fluorocarbon👍
