I have concrete flooring in our home, and I choose to use futons because I find it relieves alot of back pain. And using a rug under the futons was not cutting. Decided to splurge and order these, the quality is very nice and comfortable by it self and has helped immensely under the futons. I've read many complaints about the smell, but frankly I find it comforting as it reminds me of when we were kids and would take the back roads with our Nana just to smell the alfalfa. Over all will return for an update after some usage.

I love this Tatami mat, and I use it under my futon. However, I do suggest airing it out before use if you don't want your room to smell like hay.

Upon opening the box with the mat in it, it did not smell like chemicals at all. It smelled like hay and a bit earthy. Which is fantastic, it’s very well made imo! Had to return due to sizing issue. Emoor went above and beyond to help me out!

It's a great mat. I fold it up every night along with my futon giving me an extra room in the apartment. It's also padded (of course). Takes me back to my days visiting Japan. Well worth it - and the quality is just excellent.

The tatami mat looks good but smells awful and I know why. I won’t ever purchase another product from EMOOR because their products are made in China, not Japan, and they don’t clearly state that. Worse, but good to know, is that genuine Japanese tatami mats can be manufactured only in Japan or Taiwan. When they are made in Taiwan, the materials used come from Japan and are provided to the Taiwanese companies authorized to make the mats. Japan provides fresh materials and never needs to add chemicals to grasses they use because they are extremely strict about growing the grasses in sanitary conditions. This is not true for China! I don’t need to be graphic about that statement. That said, the mat is well made, the thickness is very good for a folding tatami mat, and comfortable. It folds up compactly. I only hoped it was made in Taiwan but it clearly states on the packaging that it is made in China. I will let it air out, outside, in the sun! Sun is a great sanitizer and I hope it helps. I gave only three stars for all the good qualities of this mat, but I cannot give it five because of the smell and how I know it was manufactured.

Purchased to go beneath a futon / shikibuton. Does the job, folds well, and has a nice herbal scent, reminiscent of green tea.

Those two things in combination are absolutely perfect. I’ve never slept better my body has never felt less pain in years, and the quality is excellent. I’m never gonna go back to regular mattress

Like this product, very good. We sleep on it and enjoy it. But be mindful of the smell. It's sometimes overwhelming. The grass has a warm smell of green tea or something like that. It's strong I can imagine some people that do not want to dominant a small room with this smell.

Simply perfect and meets my expectations. It's slimmer than other tatamis, but that's just perfect for folding and putting it away. Love the smell.
