Review: Best shirataki noodles - On a keto diet I eat shirataki as a pasta substitute. This brand is by far the best because it has no smell and doesnโt need to be refrigerated until opened. For first timersโall shirataki has a bit of a rubbery chew but for me the difference in carbs and calories is worth it. A cup of real pasta is 48 carbs. A package of these shirataki Is 0 carbs. Review: good keto substitute - Am on keto diet and these noodles are a good substitute for pasta & rice. Really don't have much flavor of their own, but are good with spaghetti sauce, fried rice, tuna-mac salad. Texture is close to that of rice noodles.

Good alternative to pasta, but...
First off... when prepared correctly, shirataki noodles are great! But, you DO have to prepare them correctly. Just rinsing them like it says on the packaging isn't sufficient. They take on the consistency of snot when you try to add them to a stir fry or soup. The best method I've found is to drain, rinse in cold water, then boil them for about three minutes, drain, and cook in a dry pan on medium-high heat for 7 to 8 minutes before adding them to whatever dish you're making. This keeps them firm and a little chewy, more like traditional pasta. Also... if you've never eaten them, before, start with small portions. I made the mistake of eating an entire packet (2 servings) in one sitting as soon as I got them and ended up with a terrible stomachache a few hours later. Apparently this is a common issue with shirataki noodles because they're basically just fiber and water, and the advice generally offered is to not eat too much at once.

Exactly what I was expecting
I heard a lot of reviews for many konjac noodles where people were complaining about a fishy smell. My assumption was that those people were either too dumb to wash the noodles. However, with these noodles, they're stored in citric acid, not lime, so I don't think there was ever a chance for them to smell fishy in the first place. Overall, they were exactly what I expected, somewhat flavorless conveyors of sauce. I will likely be purchasing the noodle variants again.

Misleading Cost per Ounce
The noodles are fine, no problem there. What annoys me is the stated cost per ounce. The packages are 7.055 net drained weight each. That works out to $.36/ounce NOT the claimed $.27. That is a 25% higher cost than what is advertised.

Great Low-Carb Pasta Substitute
I like to use shirataki noodles when I need a low-carb, low-cal pasta substitute for a stir fry dish. These have a chewy texture and neutral flavor. These are as good as other brands I've used in the past.

Terrible this time
I've bought this same brand in the past and they were OK. This time the fettuccine noodles were terrible they were broken up and looked like just a paste. I haven't opened the others yet and I hope they're not the same.
