Are these considered 3.5 RCA cables?

So I'm unsure what you actually mean. They are standard RCA size which are typically the red and white cables. They are used to connect sound between electronic devices. For example a TV and DVD / BluRay player. The 3.5 is what confuses me. If you mean 3.5mm then NO these are not 3.5mm. 3.5mm is the size used for wired headphones, so it's a lot smaller than these. If you are looking for 3.5mm to RCA, you will need to look for what's commonly known as a "Stereo Cable." Those typically are a male 3.5mm headphone end to male red and white RCA connectors. Hopefully this helps!

I'm interested in the 1.6' cable to connect my preamp to my amp. the inputs on the amp are 5" apart. Is the "y" in this cable able to spread that far?

I measured the gap at 12" plugged in, and 15" overall.

Will i get two sets rca cables?

Yes, two sets cables in one pack.

Will this cable work for a turntable that needs to be grounded?

These cables do not include a grounding wire. You will have to use an additional wire for grounding.
