This microscope/loupe thing is so good that I'm writing this review, even though I dont write reviews.
I've always kept 2 or 3 different Jeweler's Loupes for various reasons, working on electronics, removing splinters, investigating tiny insects, reading small print, looking at gems and jewelry, and often just for fun. I have been using it for a couple of months I guess, and I'm embarrassed to admit that I only recently realized that the magnification level is adjustable by sliding the eyepiece in and out. I took a chance and ordered this thing, expecting to be disappointed, because of the low price, but instead I experienced serendipity! I wasn't disappointed at all! On the contrary, I am shocked at the quality and usefulness of this thing. The LED is very white and is bright enough to be a small flashlight, and is much more useful than I could've imagined. There is also an ultraviolet LED that makes bright colors really glow brightly. I actually expect this to be really handy for some things, but I haven't figured out anything it's good for, yet. But I'm sure it really is handy. My wife got an identical one after she used mine a couple of times. She now carries it in her purse everywhere she goes, and she says she uses it at least once every single day. In fact, one of the best things about buying this loupe/microscope is that my wife likes it so much that she has finally stopped making fun of the oddball gadgets and things that I occasionally order through amazon.com! I didn't keep up with the shipping times, but it must've arrived quickly or else I'd remember it. And I also cant remember anything about the packaging, but we've received 3 of these and there has been no damage nor problems of any sort.

Probably use the microscope more than the magnifier
i bought this set quite a while back and still have both pieces - the battery is STILL working on the microscope too! I may not use it often and i haven't found the need for the blue light. but several times i've wanted to see something tiny in much greater detail and this little guy does the trick. acuity is very good and the light if used is very bright without being overkill. I keep the microscope in it's little cheap vinyl case when not being used. I don't recall what i paid for this but i know it wasn't much. when i was a kid i had an edmunds scientific microscope/telescope that was in a metal expanding tube - with a green outer shell that was a 10x/50x power. This little guy is 60X and super compact (cuz it's not doing double duty as a telescope). But even though this is a little plastic cased thing, it's actually much more useful and easier to see things esp with the optional light. it does allow for a small amount of extension/retraction for focusing as well as manually tilting it over the object being viewed. Only complaint (and it's lame) is I have lots of little things like this and everything always seems to have a black bag or case making it hard to find things sometimes. Might make a metallic sharpie mark on it or a little sticker. summary - buy one if you think you have a need for it - you won't regret it.

Main scope works
The main scope light works, and with it I was able to see microscopic laser inscriptions of swarovski on all my zirconia. However, it did take quite a bit of fiddling to get it focused just right on the correct spot. My son was never able to see more than blotches, so I can understand how some people may have had problems seeing anything with the scope: even with the scope working correctly. Clearer instructions and written expectations may help in that regard. The separate 10x magnifying lens had some kind of defect in it: looked like a dark film broke off on one edge and was crumpled within the lens itself near the side. However, when I bought this, I treated that as a nice bonus item, not the main reason for me to buy, and therefore not enough reason to return. That lens is quite large, so the defect doesn't interfere much. I do like the main scope quite a bit, but downgraded it to 4 stars for being hard to use.

Phenomenally Fun Pocket Microscope!
You'll see an entire new world you never even know you were missing! I love these little pocket microscopes so much that I've purchased several of these over the years. I always have one in my purse, one in my office, and one in my bedroom. (Which I'm sure some men wouldn't appreciate. Haha I kid.) I am constantly surprised at the uses I have for these fantastic little things! I'm not sure what the blue light is for - I don't ever use that setting - but the strong, white, bright light is AWESOME! I love that you can change the focus by pulling the eyepiece in or out. And the magnification level is INCREDIBLE! You will be absolutely flabbergasted when you see the detail of things that the naked eye misses. Seriously. Take, for example, a little piece of lint. You think you can see it - but nooooo. Put it under this lighted microscope and hang on...because you'll see details of the lint you never knew were there! AMAZING!! If it can do that with lint, imagine what it can show you on things you actually want to see the tiny details of. Bottom Line: I just purchased three more of these. My kids run off with them and I've given a couple away after I've shown my friends/family members the phenomenal detail these provide. The price is truly fantastic. The light lasts a very long time. You may be able to even change the batteries, but for the price, I just throw them away when the light goes out. I never knew something like this could be so fun and entertaining - but they are! You will be looking for things to examine under the lens, I guarantee it! I highly, HIGHLY recommend these little pocket microscopes!

Good Little Magnifier, Hard to Focus
Upon receiving this item you see it comes in a nice little carry pouch that easily fits into your pocket to take it with you on the go, which is great if you like something small to see jewelry markings at places like yard sales or swap meets. Before you use it make sure you pull the little tab for the batteries so your light will work, you'll need it. Now there are two different lights on this, if you flip the switch one way there are 2 bright led lights that will light up whatever your trying to see quite well. However if you want to see something that you need a black-light for simply flip the switch the other way and viola a little black-light to see secured codes (or you classmates note written in invisible ink). Now for the magnifier itself, this does have a powerful magnification, but it is very difficult to get a focus on something. You pretty much need to put the end of the magnifier right on top of what you want to magnify or else it just looks all blurred and you can't make anything out. For a lot of things this might be ok, but for items like rings this is a total pain in the butt. Most of the times if I have to use this to see the stamp on a ring it takes me a couple minutes to fit the end of the magnifier to exactly where it needs to be in order to read the stamp correctly. Overall though this is a good magnifier for the price and will work in a pinch or if you don't need one that often.

Damned cheeky little instrument!
Surprising little product. Initially, I was disappointed. The thing is small and feels as though it were cheaply made (and it is mass produced and Chinese). It is metal, plastic, glass, with a battery and LED's. Physically (it is always "folded") the thing takes up maybe half the volume of a pack of cigarettes. When I tried to focus this (by turning, as you would with a normal microscope), I couldn't get it to work. The reason: The focus is not a "turn to focus" function, it is a "push-pull" to focus. Again, that seemed cheesy, but: This is a remarkably inexpensive little gadget, and it turns out the magnification is every bit what it says it is: 60x (approx) and "true optical", no digital tomfoolery. And the thing has features you will not expect: There is a 3-position (center off) switch for the LED's. One direction lights just one blue LED, a weak but "colored" illumination. The other direction lights three relatively powerful and very bright white LED's. Both LED settings have specific uses, the 3 bright ones are for everyday use and work great. The dim blue is an "alternate light source", a feature of higher end products. Look: No one is ever going to use one of these to become a finalist for the Nobel. But this item works perfectly, as described, and the price is unbeatable. It is my favorite gadget of the year, at least "value-wise".

Tiny, bright, equally tiny focal length
I was hoping for small and it turned out to be even smaller than I thought. I consider that a pro. The lights are very bright. It performs as advertised which is both good and bad. In order to focus you must be right up on the object. The little clear plastic spacer rests on the paper. While this could be useful in a lot of ways it would not work for say looking at bugs where you need a little more distance or even trying to look through a clear container. For comparison the simple lens magnifying glass that comes with it was focused when about 3in above the paper I was testing. I did not have any trouble seeing through the scope when it was at the proper distance from an object (which I had read was an issue in another review). I bought this for the kiddo so the super powerful but compact scope along with the traditional magnifying glass which allows for more distance for looking at bugs and what not is really a perfect combo.

It works!
A great little microscope to view currency or anything else! It is equipped with a blue light and a white LED, both of which work great. It’s easy to adjust and would work well for kids, science lovers and currency collectors alike!
