I have a small backyard(10’x15’), how many candles do you suggest to use?

The candles will not be very effective outdoors. I use them indoors at night in the bedroom and they seem to help there. Outdoors you many get better results with a lemon-eucalyptus spray applied to skin, clothing, outdoor fabrics.

Can they float in water?

Just tried the candles in water & they did float & twinkle.

Nope..don't think so. But they are inexpensive enough that simply replacing the candle is very economical.
