Is the top cup (the one without all the holes) closed at the bottom? Or does egg run out through a hole at the bottom into the water?

The top cup is connected to the lower, so the egg run out through a hole at the bottom into the water.

Do I need a large pot filled with water to use this product?

Hi there,I’m Rebecca with OXO. Thanks for the great question! While our Egg Poacher is optimized for use in a pot large enough for the water to reach the Egg Poacher fill line, our Product Development team noticed that the Poacher still works even if just the bottom half of the Poacher is covered in water. More water keeps the temperature more stable for fast, even cooking, but you can still get a good result if you use less water, as long as you crack the egg in carefully. Please feel free to contact us at tellus@oxo.com with any more questions or comments.Thoughtfully yours,OXO

That is what it says in the product information!

Are the egg poachers dishwasher safe?

They may be dishwasher safe, but don't wash them in the dishwasher. Silicone egg poachers take on the flavor of dish detergent in the dishwasher, and you'll have soapy eggs forever.
