A Comprehensive Explanation
I was looking for a broad and basic description of Pythagorean numerology, and I believe I have found it in this modern classic, The Complete Book of Numerology by David A. Phillips, Ph.D. The author clearly and succinctly explains the methods of determining key numbers such as the Ruling Number (called Life Path in some other texts), day number, and name numbers. He also demonstrates how to create a birth chart and a name chart and explores deeper concepts such as Arrows of Individuality and Pyramids to identify peaks in the nine-year cycle of change. In addition to the calculation of numbers and configurations of charts, the author provides basic descriptions of the meanings of numbers in various situations. He includes detail in using the knowledge to better understand traits, develop strengths and overcome weaknesses. The book can be easily used as a working handbook of practical numerology . There is more, however. Phillips provides background about the philosophical and metaphysical underpinnings of numerology as a science. This includes chapters on such esoteric subjects as the connection between astrology and numerology, relationship compatibility, and even reincarnation. Giving just enough information without overwhelming the novice (like me), the book lives up to it’s subtitle: “Discovering the Inner Self.” One of the things I look for in reading nonfiction is whether the book stimulates me to learn more, to pursue further information on the subject, and a desire to explore the topic in greater depth. This book certainly did that.

Profoundly Interesting
This is a very interesting book on numerology. I have read several others on the subject, and this one treats the topic in a slightly different way. The section on personal year cycles is very in depth, and the author even shows a graph of which years are peak years and trough years, and even takes the reader on a month by month description of what to expect in any given year, and what types of things are likely to happen during a particular yearly cycle. Each year in the nine year cycle has it's own particular challenges and advantages in a person's life. He also refers to a person's "ruling number" instead of using the term "life path number", and delves into the positive and negative tendencies of each number, traits associated with each number, and even vocations that suit that particular personality. He also talks about particular day numbers, and what they mean when you are born on a particular day, and also delves into the master numbers, such as 11 and 22 in a more in depth way than other books that I have read. The chapter on "Arrows of Individuality" is really intriguing. You take the month, day, and year you were born, and lay the digits out on a grid, just like tic-tac-toe squares. The top row is 3,6,9 the middle row is 2,5,8 and the bottom row is 1,4,7. Depending on how your numbers cluster together on the grid, how many of the numbers repeat, which ones are absent, and where the gaps and spaces are in the grid defines who you are. It shows where your strengths and deficiencies are, what mental abilities you have, personality issues, memory, how sensitive you are, etc, etc. Pretty amazing stuff! I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Numerology. Glynis McCants book "Glynis Has Your Number" is another enjoyable and informative book as well. Both of these books are very interesting, but present the subject in slightly different ways.

Great book. Very easy to read and easy to do the calculations.
Very well written. Thoroughly explained which is enough information to not overload a beginner. I was able to do most of the equations mentally which was very nice.

I enjoyed the content, but the editing was awful!
I thought this book did a great job explaining the overarching themes and ideas about numerology. The diagrams and pyramids were easy to follow, and everything was explained in layman's terms. The explanations were also very thorough. I learned a lot! My problem with the kindle version is that it CLEARLY was not edited... or if it was, the editor did a horrible job. First, the author is British, so the British usage of "s" instead of "z" for verbs takes a little getting used to for American readers. Secondly, in this era of computers and spell check, there is absolutely no excuse for inaccurate spellings or misusage of words and grammar. If the author, who has apparently written 12 books, ever used Microsoft Word before, then he could have easily corrected all of his mistakes and errors in this text before publishing by simply clicking the spell check button! I mean, using "form" instead of "from," or "then" instead of "than," or "pea" instead of "peak," and dozens of spacing errors... it's just ridiculous. I'm pretty sure a fifth-grade history paper would have less writing mistakes than this book. If you expect people to pay to read you work, you should at least make the text readable.

The book is written for anyone interested in numerology in such a way that after one reading and a few applications (the self and relatives is a good start), you have a good grasp of the technique. After that it's a matter of practice. Very easy and pleasant read. Though it would be useful to uncover the subject of reincarnation a bit more.
