Good for a dark roast
Not bitter, but bold for those who enjoy that. Whole bean needs to be ground, but not very oily beans. Low acidity. 2lbs can last a while.

Great Coffee
This coffee is great. For months I have been looking for a very dark roast bean to replace the Rwandan Dark Roast from Costco that is no longer available. I have tried a half dozen that all claimed to be "dark roast" but no matter how I varied the beans none came out better than average. The Mayorga Dark hits all the right buttons. I drink my coffee black and very strong and I can brew just what I like by simply adding a few more beans....but it does not get bitter....just strong. And, the aroma is great !!!

Ok, but not dark or bold
I really wanted to love this, but I was pretty disappointed. I love dark and medium dark roasts, this simply isn't very dark or bold. The only way I've gotten any strong flavor is if I I grind it very fine for maximum extraction. Even with a fine grind I would say this is a medium roast that tastes like solid diner coffee. My girlfriend uses it for espresso and she does like it but will just sip on it with nothing added. For reference I like major dickens by Pete's and starbucks Sumatra. Smooth ok but not dark, and underwhelming.
