HeatShift CoolGuard Laptop Sleeve 17 inch - Black (HSN17A)

I bought this for a Dell Inspiron 17 after having tried a Targus USB powered cooling pad and have to say that, although the description sounds promising, the actual results are less than expected. On the positive side, the case does provide some protection for the laptop and my Dell fits in it like a glove. The primary objective of keeping the laptop cool, however, is lacking. First, the grooves that are supposed to allow for airflow do not allow enough air for the system to stay cool. Without the HeatShift pad under my laptop and with the laptop elevated so there is maximum airflow to the intake my system temp was at 147 under normal use and between 165-185 during heavy loads. WITH the HeatShift, the system temp was at 185 under light to normal use but up to 204 under moderate use and at that temp the laptop became sluggish. I'm using the Targus powered cooler at the moment and my system temp is currently at 129 and doesn't go much above 145 under load. I haven't been able to evaluate the ability of the gel in the HeatShift to dissipate the heat as the system would be suffering from the 204 temp before the gel starting changing from it's solid form. Even if the gel acts as designed, the restricted airflow to the cooling fan intake counter-acts any cooling the gel would provide. I'm going to keep the HeatShift for the sleeve but it's not worth it for the cooling aspect.

Meh. Not A great deal. Feel now that i spend way too much on it. Wish I could return it. Doesnt cool as much as I'd thought. But does keep my lap cool.

HeatShift CoolGuard Laptop Sleeve is a great product, you get protection from the elements as well from your laptop getting hot and burning you!!! :-)

I received my heatshift very quickly and love using it. My laptop is a 15.6' and this sleeve is 17'. I couldn't find the 15.6" one when I ordered this, but love it. There is a little room in the sleeve for me to add my drives and power adapter. It works to a charm as well for dissipating heat from the laptop although, you should make sure that your laptop vents are not blocked when using this. Only other thing to get used to is that if you actually place this on your lap when using laptop, eventually your legs will get a little warm. LOL.

Seems to keep my laptop slightly cooler but doesn't work as well as I thought it might. My fan still runs a lot, too. I do keep my computer on my lap, on a throw pillow. I put this on top and it's constantly sliding my computer around. Drives me nuts!

it's a good product. It keep it cool and protected while i'm on the go. it DOES NOT fit my Alienware M17x

This product has the advantage of drawing no additional from your laptop's battery. I've tested this product while performing some cpu intensive programs. During use, my core temps were down to about 83 degrees Celsius. I admit this isn't ideal temp to keep the cpu at but I was using an i7 (1st gen) with no parked cores and running a Java based program. This is an innovative, almost perfect solution to a persistent problem.
