So happy I did my research.... made correct choice for me.
So happy I made this purchase. My family is not really what I would call a toaster crazy family. When my wife and I got married, we registered for a nice toaster. It lasted us 11 plus years and we never had a second thought about it. I mean, it's a toaster right? It can make toast and take a regular bagel and make it awesome... so I was happy. Sadly it died on us one day. I thought we could go buy a new one and we'd be happy. Boy was I wrong. I purchased 2 other toasters in less than 2 years, both were decent name brand toasters. Both crapped out on my quickly and didn't really even toast all that well when they were active. I'm not sure when building a quality toaster became so hard, but something happened where quality and durability just don't matter any more. I read all the reviews, I compared all the prices. For my budget, I thought this looked like the best option. I have 2 young kids and a wife. So, on any given week our breakfast choices change 10 times over. Toast, a bagel, waffles, pop-tarts..... we use it more often now then the past. This WAS the right product for us. Nice features, even toasting, a nice count down feature, easy to use heat settings, all add up to a great appliance. I really like that it doesn't pop up violently... it plays a nice tone instead. Also, you can list the handle to raise you bread out even higher to avoid any contact with the metal. Also very nice with smaller breads like small bagels and English muffins. I went with the stainless option because it looks nice and matches my kitchen. I noticed my work has almost the same exact toaster in our break room, just in white. That thing gets used probably 50 times a day and works like a champ. If you are on the fence like I was, you have done your research like I did, and this is one of your options.... go for it. I think you'll be happy you did.

Works like a toaster should
So far, this toaster does what it should. I read other reviews commenting on uneven browning. The instructions do say that when toasting denser breads (ie whole wheat) that you might have to bump the color setting up some. It also states that toasting a single slice of bread at a time can have an effect on the color because it will tend to toast the inside part of the toast a bit more because of the added heat exposure. I imagine any toaster will have the same problem. I first tried toasting sprouted grain bread on 4. It toasted the front side fairly well, and the back side not so much. I tried it again on 5, and that seemed to do it. It does seem to toast the top half a bit more than the bottom half, but I didn't see that as making it a bad toaster. I opted for this model, over the similar model with the push bottom lower/pop-up button because 1) I didn't see the need to spend the extra $30 bucks or so, 2) that's just one more thing to fail. It's toaster after all. Neat feature, but face it, the more plumbing they put in it, the easier to gum up the works. It toast fairly quickly (compared to the toaster oven I was using). While toasting, the face of the toaster gets up to about 100-105 degrees. The sides about 90. After the toast cycle it cools down quickly. I would say anyone looking for a plastic 'cool touch' toaster, don't worry about that. Get what looks good for you. The lowering the bread takes a little effort to get it to engage and stay down, but, that might loosen up a bit with some use. Raising the toast above its 'top' position, is a nice feature, but the toaster is so light that you need to hold it down in order to get enough force on the level to lift the toast up higher. Which with no cool handle to hold on to makes that task a little difficult. But, I doubt I will need that feature often, so, this isn't a show stopped. The heating coils seem well distributed. It appears to have 10 wraps spaced at about 1/2" apart, front and backside. I'm surprised more toaster don't show that information in their specs. The toaster had a dent in it when I received it, but I think that happened in the warehouse, because the shipping container was fine. The product box had the gouge in it. It's on the backside of the toaster, so you can't see it. We'll see what Amazon offers for that. That doesn't impact the functioning of toaster.

A great toaster for the money!
It is worth the money you pay for it! It has various options and easy to use! It toasts up to four slices at a time!

Disappointed
I bought this last summer of 2022 and have barely used it! My diet changed and I didn’t eat toast for a long time! I should have written this last year, but hesitated because I like Cuisinart products very much! The problem that I constantly had was the toasting was very bad. It was either too light or too dark! I adjusted over and over with the different numbers of toasting and that didn’t help! I could never get a piece of toast evenly done—either too light or too dark or burned! I checked the coils and saw that some didn’t burn at all! Every piece in the pair of slots was uneven! I tried each of the special toasting programs and still had trouble! I know it is too late to complain and get a substitution, but in going over my orders, I saw where I could still send in a review! I researched all the best toasters and of course they were expensive! I figured that I had used Cuisinart products in the past, so I couldn’t go wrong with a toaster! That is why I bought it! Being elderly and semi-invalid, I could get no one to help me send it back! Living alone is a big hassle! I therefore wish to warn anyone not to buy this toaster. I know that a lot of buyers have bought products that they received that were Lemons and in returning them were completely satisfied with the newer product! I can’t say that, but I just want to caution anyone about this toaster and be ready to turn it back if it is defective!

Ehh, it's OK, but we're sending it back
I'll go into my experience with the toaster in a second, but first let me explain why we got this toaster. For the past 5-7 years we've had a Kitchen Aid motorized toaster (no levers on the machine, you just pushed what range of toast you wanted and the machine took the toast in and lowered it down - I think I bought it on QVC for something in the price range of $80-100). It was a substantial toaster (weight-wise) with digital buttons to put the toast down, had wide slots like we like (4-slice toaster) and did also make a beeping sound when the toast came up (but nothing as loud as the beeping on this machine). The toaster had a good variety of toasting variations, my husband and I always found Level 3 to be the perfect range of toasting for our tastes. We loved that toaster but it bit the dust a few weeks ago. As soon as it went buh-bye, I jumped onto QVC and Amazon to find something similar (which I cannot seem to find, ugh!). After some research, I decided trying a toaster oven... which was soon returned a couple of weeks later (just too big on my counter top) - but one thing I noticed about the toaster oven is that if you cooked on a 3 or higher, your items came out burnt. I'm not sure if all toaster ovens are like that, but clearly we learned to toast everything on a 2. Like I said, we wound up returning it because of the size. Back to Amazon I went, really looking over and over at toasters. I finally debated between getting this toaster and the Cuisinart CPT-440. I usually only buy a few certain name brands for my kitchen items and appliances Cuisinart is one of those brands and I'm usually very pleased with them. Because I'd recently spent a lot of money out of pocket for a family situation, I thought I would get this lower-priced toaster. The toaster just got to my house yesterday and I was pleased this morning to have an English muffin for breakfast. One thing we noticed when we removed the toaster from the box was how extremely light it is. I looked at my husband and said "Well, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing". I put the toaster down onto the kitchen counter and it just seemed to me that with the materials used and the light weight of the toaster that there just wasn't much to it. Again, that could be a good thing, or a bad thing... and maybe our last toaster was much heavier because it had a motor in it (?) We put our English muffins in on 2, not sure how light/dark this toaster would toast. I would agree with another reviewer that when I toast my items, I really want them toasted; I don't care for a "barely there" kind of toast. At a 2, I will tell you the top of the English muffin (faced to the inside of the toaster) came out lightly toasted and the outside of the muffin seemed soft, almost not to be toasted at all. That's not my personal preference for toasted items, but it could be for others, surely. Mental note that going forward I'd probably toast at a 3, if I was going to keep this toaster. Another thing we noticed was how LOUD the beeps were when the toasted items are ready. Holy cow, that's no joke. Luckily all 3 of us were awake in the house, haha, otherwise you could wake people up with that. Again, it's just a little "something" we noticed. Lastly, (and this is the thing that irks me the most) we noticed that when the muffins were done, they were not raised high enough that we could grab them quickly and smear whatever we wanted all over them. Yes, the description above does specifically state that the levers have a function which lets you manually raise it higher for items if they don't clear the top of the toaster. And yes, I did read that before I bought the toaster, and I do remember specifically thinking "well that seems silly, why doesn't it just automatically raise itself higher so you don't have to use that lever at all" (which is what I was used to with my Kitchen Aid - and I think I just assumed that all toasters were like that). Shame on me, should've listened to that inner pickiness in me, I guess ;-) My husband was holding our son on his one hip, so one hand was tied up - therefore he couldn't get the muffin out because he'd need one hand to raise the lever up higher and then use the other hand to pull the muffin out. I was standing right there and removed the muffin for him. Okay, okay, some of you might be rolling your eyes at me, but I'll tell you that with a little one at home, being able to do things one-handed sometimes can make a huge difference between a little task and a larger task :-) All in all, the toaster does indeed toast, that's why I gave it 3 stars. On the other hand, I didn't find anything about the toaster to be fantastic; quite the contrary, I found these little things to be kind of a pain, so that's why I ONLY gave it 3 stars. Maybe if it was just the loud beeps, or just the barely there feel of the toaster, I wouldn't be sending it back. But all of these little things together didn't lead me to believe this was the toaster for our fast-paced family. Back to the drawing board I go -- this time I'll be sure to get another motorized toaster (which means more $), either Kitchen Aid or Cuisinart (I think I only see Cuisinart motorized toasters on Amazon). Cuisinart is a great brand, solid in most things, and this toaster by no means sways me from purchasing the brand again. I'm just going to make sure that this time around I hone in more on that motorized feature, even if it costs me more. Let's hope that like the Kitchen Aid toaster we had before, the difference in price will guarantee a rock star of a toaster!

Cuisinart 4 slice toaster.
This toaster arrived in very good condition and it was packed very well. I really like this toaster because it toast 4 slices of bread, which is great for sandwiches. The toaster does a good job in toasting my bagel, which really pleases me…I can’t say much more because it is a Cuisinart. shirley40
