Step lid opener - I have found that these are cheaply made. Anyone found one that is all metal components for the step lid opener?

Mine uses a metal rod up to the lid hinge, but the hinge itself is plastic (although the plastic looks pretty thick). I can't see the mechanism by the step, since it's enclosed on all sides.

Does this close quietly, or slam down? I want to have a slow lid one.

It's not a slow lid, but it is not loud closing..overall a good product.

Is this big enough for a single person's kitchen?

I would thing that, if you recycle everything possible, it might be big enough if you have weekly trash pickup.
