MERCURY Lead Acid Battery Charger | 2/6/12V 600mA, Gray

With a maximum output of around 600mA, this charger is perfect for extended use. Many years ago, I laid a car up for 5 years, & to keep the battery & engine in good condition I would start the car once per week. I would leave the lights on (with the engine off) for about 20-30 minutes to help discharge the battery, then attach a 500mA trickle-charger to gently build the charge up again. When I started to use this car, the battery lasted a further 9 years without any problem. I bought this very similar charger to repeat the process during this Lockdown period & I am repeating the method described above. Of course, these days we have to consider that modern cars have sophisticated electronics that sometimes are still working when the car isn't being used, so therefore I think this makes it more important to keep the battery in top condition. This charger works very well: it doesn't get hot, and it delivers a nice, gentle charge. I have mine on a timer, which I have set to give around 8 hours charge per day. The only minor grumble is that the leads could be just a little bit longer, maybe by another metre or so, but otherwise this is an excellent unit and very good value for money.

Does the job.

Good value for the price, trickle charges my classic car nicely, and cuts out when the battery is fully charged. Be aware it is a 0.6amp charging rate, so takes a while if the battery is low. Cables are a good length and the clips fit securely on the posts. I would have liked a read out of charge level, but for the price you can't have everything!

Highly reliable and still working perfectly after regular use and even charged a flat car battery overnight without overheating. Good build quality.
