Works as expected seems high quality

Perfect for grating hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano. The grater disassembles extremely easily for cleaning, and it only takes seconds to wash after grating a hard cheese However, I do not recommend using it with semi-hard cheeses like cheddar only because the softer cheese gets stuck everywhere and it's a little hard to clean it out completely.

Had the old model Zyliss cheese grater for many, many years (15+) and when the elbow hinge finally gave out, I ordered a new Zyliss...I was disappointed to see in tiny print on the bottom of the box "Made in China" and while it does say Zyliss, nowhere on the item does it say "Switzerland". Both are made of plastic with stainless (?) steel blades, but I'm not certain if the new plastic is of as high quality as the older model. OK, I just tried out the new one. There are some definite pros: the handle grip is more comfortable; the hopper is larger; it can be changed from right to left handed; the crank knob turns with the cranking motion rather than sliding against your fingers. The new model seems a bit hard to get started on the chunk of cheese, but does ok once you get going. The last sliver of the cheese gets left behind whereas the older model seemed to take care of the whole piece to the end. The older model has circular cutting blades and seems to grate slightly finer (and maybe slightly closer) than the new one which has square cutting blades. The blades on the new model are sharp and protrude from the cylinder (drum) enough to catch on your skin when cleaning the cylinder. It could be just me but I'm not certain if the cylinder on the new model is "stainless steel" or a brushed aluminum or lesser quality steel. The box says "acid etched razor sharp blade drum" and "CAUTION: Sharp blades - handle with care." 5 Year Guarantee (not a warrantee). If this one lasts as long as the older one did, I should be in my 90s by then. Photos compare the old model and the new model. Buon Appetito! Reply

Just got it. Used once. Worked great. I had one of these in the past. It lasted for years until the handle broke. I hope I love the new one as much as my last one.

After trying every grater, zester, and shredder I have (and I have a lot) I finally decided to get something just for Parmesan Reggiano cheese. My arm was killing me with mostly less than desirable results. While searching I saw this one and recognized it from what some restaurants use. It’s excellent! I just grated a huge slab of Parmesan and it was so easy. It only took a few minutes and no sore arms! It was a bit tricky to take apart so I looked it up online, followed the recommendations and it popped right apart. Cleanup was super easy. It seems to good to be true since it’s just plastic and a (sharp) metal grating barrel but it comes with a 5 year warranty and it’s got a good brand name.

Easy to use and store. You will go back to this frequently! I have hand issues like arthritis and was getting fatigued box grating my parmigiano reggiano. And grating my fingers. This grater is so easy on the hands and makes quick work of grating a couple of cups of cheese. When it gets to the end and not grating anymore just open and rearrange the piece to grate more and the remaining pieces are small enough to use as well. Easy to disassemble. Soak in soapy water a few minutes and if necessary scrub with an old toothbrush. It will clean quickly and is a good trade off for the ease of use. Just think about cleaning a box grater — much harder. I have one for about 5 years and it’s fine. No dishwasher though.

Okay, I want to start with I DO LIKE IT, but not for the price I paid. I like purchasing items that have multi-use. This item is found will ONLY grate hard cheese. It took forever trying to get the Colby jack cheese out of the grater portion because it was too soft. Now thank goodness I do use alot of parmesan cheese and I use it often, so I do use this at least once a week. Its light weight. Easy to clean IF YOU ARE NOT GRATING SOFT CHEESES. Shreds my parmesan pretty easy. I havent used it on ginger, garlic, and onion, but I imagine it will work good for those because they are hard...so i can definitely see it being versatile for OTHER hard things. I have tiny hands - like size small medical gloves and xs winter gloves (im 5'2"), this not very easy to use long term with the smaller hands, but my husband (6'4") can use this VERY easily. Now it is useful for parmesan, and if you've ever had to grate parmesan by hand, this definitely eases that.

I'm not sure I would call it Restaurant certified, but it works great. You can switch the handle side for left handed people. Highly recommend that you freeze softer cheeses before grating them. Cleans nicely in the dishwasher.

パスタ店でカルボナーラ用に購入いたしました。 今まで細長いチーズ削りを使用しており、どうしてもチーズがかけていましたが、こちらの商品にかけた部分を集めてセットすると無駄にならず大変ありがたいです。力もいらず、スピーディーに削れるのでオペレーション的にもとても良いです。パルミジャーノ、ペコリーノどちらも問題なく使えています。

Our previous Zyliss lasted for many years but needed replacement. This successor does the job well.
