I am wanting to kill/remove moss on my roof. Will this product do that?

I have been a professional roof cleaner since 1989. To be more precise, I would need to know what state you are in, what the roof is made of - tile, asphalt shingles, wood shakes etc. But in general, moss is among the hardest of fungi to remove, much harder than black or green algae for instance. In general, the 1st thing to do is forget these "Homeowner Special" gimmick products. No roofing manufacturer, to my knowledge has EVER suggested you play with these money making gimmicks! All the roofing manufacturer moss, algae, mildew removal systems they specify, say to use Bleach  sodium hypochlorite - best bought at a pool store - and to apply it with NO BRUSHING, NO PRESSURE WASHERS, NO GIMMICKS AT ALL! Their roof cleaning mix is cheap and works, without damage to the roof's integrity-which is the opposite of power washing, scrubbing, or worst of all, Surface Cleaning Machines  look like a floor buffer  Mix is 33% Sodium Hypochlorite - again, buy it at a pool store, where it is fresher 10% to 13% and much cheaper than old shelved 8% Clorox type sodium hypochlorite bleach. Using a 100 gallon tank, such as I use, as an example--Put in 65 to 70 gallons of water, THEN add 29 to-34 gallons of the bleach  SH  { You may add TSP, as the roofing mfg say, but it's not necessary } then during that last missing gallon or so, to reach a full 100 gal tank, add 44-64 ounces of original Gain dish liquid  it's the only product readily available, that is totally compatible with the chlorine bleach. You are adding 1 gallon of water in the end, to mix in the Gain, without making it foam all up! Protect all shrubs and plants around the roof edge drip line, with tarps and constant watering and this is where a DIY homeowner cleaning usually gets you on the phone, finding a professional "Soft Wash" contractor to do the job! YOU HAVE TO APPLY IT TO THE ROOF, KEEP IT WET FOR 30 MINUTES AND THEN RINSE IT OFF WITH A GARDEN HOSE - Not With A Pressure Washing Machine! If a contractor says he will start a pressure washer up during the cleaning process, MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE! We have 5 gallon per minute pumps and -Myself 230' - of 1/2" id diameter hose to apply the roof mix with-homeowners don't! If you buy all the equipment I use, you will be far better off to just hire a pro and not kill yourself, falling of the roof or ladder! With moss, 75-90% of the moss will come off with the garden hose rinse, using a pool filter cleaning "Jet Nozzle" the rest will be dead as a doornail and come off with hard rains, in the next few months. About 4 years down the road, it will be back to some extent.You can watch me using this cleaning system on roofs with black algae, moss does not cover roofs here in SW Florida, but the process and cleaning agents are the same. Not in me, necessarily, but in the roofing manufacturers for coming up with the perfect roof cleaning solution. Of course, it's just business and they don't want to pay for premature roof failure, due to Pressure Washing, Surface Cleaners or Brushes. To see what a surface cleaner is, so you can avoid the use of one on your roof at all costs, do another Youtube search for:  Bergman Driveway Cleaning  : I use them for what they were originally designed for "FLAT CEMENT CLEANING" and the designs have not changed!For all the info in the world! Go to the Roof Cleaning Institute Of America. Use the "Search" feature or post questions. {PS I CALL THESE PRODUCTS GIMMICKS, BECAUSE I HAVE PERSONALLY TESTED THEM ON MY OWN BACK ROOF, THAT IS CUT INTO THE WOODS. THEY DON'T WORK, as advertised. They do tell you, not to expect to see the roof look clean for 3 months or more UNLESS YOU PRESSURE CLEAN IT AFTER APPLYING THESE "PROPRIETARY"  they don't have to tell you what's in them-like KFC recipe!   Heck, if you are going to go against the roofing manufacturers specific instructions, not to use the high pressure of a power wash machine, you can spray baby shampoo on and blast it clean "looking" Millions of algae spores, invisibly covering your roof,  will still be alive and growing, with baby shampoo or these gimmick products,  not so with bleach - they will be totally eradicated!   but it will look fine FROM THE GROUND, for a year or so.  THEY DO OFFER $ BACK GUARANTEES. THEY DEPEND ON THE BUYER EITHER LOSING HIS RECEIPT, OR NOT BOTHERING TO KEEP THE EMPTY CONTAINERS ETC. THAT IS WHAT I BELIEVE MAKES THEM THEIR MONEY. THESE TYPE PRODUCTS-AGAIN, MY OPINION-HAVE EMPLOYEES, FRIENDS, ETC ETC LEAVE THEM POSITIVE FEEDBACK, TO CONVINCE PROSPECTIVE BUYERS, THAT THEY WORK..OTHER SIMILAR GIMMICK PRODUCTS I HAVE TRIED ARE "SPRAIN'FORGET" + "WETEN-FORGET"  names changed-You can guess?

Can this product be applied with a hose end garden sprayer

It can't be applied by a hose end garden sprayer because its a powder that is oxygen based that when mixed with water needs 15-20 minutes of "activation" time before applying it to the roof, a hose end bottle doesn't provide enough activation time. The more times the product is stirred the greater that oxygen activation, the greater the results. It's best to mix this up in a 5 gallon bucket or small trash can or drum then use a water/sump pump with a hose attachment something you'd use to drain a pool or water transfer pump and spray the roof with the attached garden hose or can activated then poured into a 2 gallon garden style pump sprayer and sprayed on the roof. Water transfer pumps can be rented at local hardware stores or tool rental businesses if you don't own one.

Is this product safe to clean roof of brick home due to run off?

I only have brick on the frt of the house and there was no problem.  I used a tank sprayer to put it on and there was very little if any run off.

There are many of these products for sale nowadays. I'm a professional roof cleaner and I am looking forward to the day that one of these things actually work. I have tried quite a few now and none worked. I'd like an alternative to what the roofing manufacturers specify BLEACH + Water. Anything that this will do, a 40% mixture of pool chlorine and water will do better! For starters, these products almost always say to clean with a pressure washer, after applying. Using a common 3500 psi machine will clean a roo, if you spray baby shampoo on it! Pressure washers ruin shingled roofs, by blasting the granules off and snapping tabs off. On tile, a pressure washer ill etch into the cement-pitting it. It will also remove the factory UV protection glazing and blow pieces of ridge cap cement off into space! 2ndly, most warranties are for 30 to 90 days. Many of these gimmick products say right on the label, it may take longer than that to see full results. Try getting your $ back! LOL
