Beautiful sound quality - very happy purchase!
Let me start by saying that *sound quality* is paramount for me. I tried my wife’s Airpod Pro’s, not expecting stunning sound quality, but hoping that it would be at least “good enough” and that I would purchase a pair due to their flawless integration with all things in the Apple-verse (yeah, that’s my universe). I found the Airpod Pro’s … clear and clean, and effortless to use. But … I really was not thrilled with the sound quality. So began the search for something significantly better - that led me to these Bowers & Wilkins PI7’s. Like you, reading here, I found contradictory reports. At least one thing in common in almost all reviews was that these sound wonderful (they do!). Unfortunately, some folks reported trouble - difficulty connecting, Bluetooth dropouts, poor signal from the case/transmitter when using them with non-Bluetooth native devices (like an old-era iPod), etc. I almost did not order them, but I’m glad I did. My observations here are based on using the PI7’s with: an iPhone X, Apple TV HD, MacBook Pro ca. 2016, and, yes, an old click-wheel iPod. First things first, I love the sound quality! As with any in-ear monitor, the *fit* is critical. Without a good seal, you will have poor sound - terribly weak bass and other distortions. I have large ears and I use the largest of the three included ear-tips. I recommend using the largest tip that you find comfortable. The PI7 earpieces themselves are a bit large. I have no problem with them, but if you have particularly small ears … you might find they don’t fit comfortably. The only way to know is to try. As long as they fit, and you use the proper size ear-tip (to get a good seal), the sound is glorious! Ok, remember, they are wireless bluetooth earbuds. They are not going to dust the best wired headphones you have ever used. But, really, for what they are, they sound awesome! Any trouble?? A number of folks reported trouble with the sound dropping out. I have not had any such trouble. This may be dependent on the particular devices &/or environment. As long as I stayed close to the broadcasting source, I had *no* dropouts. Now, if I walked across the room, around a corner, etc., then the sound would drop out. Maybe some other earbuds perform better in this respect. But for my use this was a non-issue. Another user reported that when using the case as a transmitter (say with an old iPod), the sound/connection was bad. Again, I have had no trouble here. While typing this I’m listening to a great playlist from my old iPod, being transmitted by the PI7’s case. The sound is wonderful! I use the PI7’s paired to my Apple TV while I’m on the treadmill (an old & noisy one). Between the good fit/seal and the noise cancellation, the sound is excellent. Does the noise cancellation equal the over-ear Bose headphones I’ve used in the past? Probably not. But it is plenty good enough. My use with phone calls has not been extensive; so far, callers have sounded very clear and they have said the same about me. One area where I’ve had a little trouble with the PI7’s is with the Ambient Pass-Through. This is an important feature, allowing external sounds/voices to be “piped-in” with whatever you are otherwise listening to. As other people have commented, you need to use the B&W Headphone App in order to engage this feature. It would be nice if you could trigger it from the earbuds themselves. Additionally, sometimes I found the earbuds “reluctant” to engage the ambient pass-through. I’d have to toggle it a couple times. All in all, though, I love these earbuds! Their operation may be a tad less good than the refined perfection of Apple’s own devices (in the Apple-verse), and there is room for improvement (quick, reliable, on-device engagement of ambient pass-through), but … if you *really* care about sound quality, these are by far the best wireless earbuds I’ve heard at this time. Update 11/16/2021: I had complained about the Ambient Pass-Through toggle (in the app) not always working. Lately, I've had no trouble with it. There *is* a slight delay, switching in either direction. Not sure if this had made me feel it was not switching. In any event, no complaints with that now. Also, though I was happy with the fit of the included ear tips, I ordered a set of Comply tips to try. For me, the Comply tips were no more comfortable than the included tips. However, for me, the sound is much better using the INCLUDED TIPS. This may be ear-shape dependent. But I found that the included tips yielded better bass, overall clarity and richness. So, if you find you are happy with the comfort of the included tips - I'd stop there.

Bluetooth setup takes an extra step. Sound quality is phenomenal.
I typically only read negative reviews. These headphones do require an extra step to ensure that BT connectivity is established and maintained. Once I did that, I've had no issues whatsoever. Pros: - Sound quality is phenomenal - I have Jabra Elites at about the same price point and the sound here just blows them away. - Fit, even in my baby ears, is spot on once I swapped to the small ear pieces - Battery life is fine - Wearing during a typical, weights-oriented workout is fine - if you're doing HIIT or plyometrics, you'll want something that'll anchor the buds to your ears Cons: - The BT setup took an extra step - you definitely should download the B&W app if you get these. If you wan't overpriced plug-n-play and have an iPhone, get Air Pods. - I debated whether to put this here or not...they do NOT get very loud, even when my phone is at max volume. They get plenty loud but I like the fact that I can't destroy my ears (with super loud volume) when wearing these things the same way I can w/ the Jabras. The only reason I list this as a con is because the buyer should be able to hear their music at whatever volume they want. So if you like having your music completely cranked up, these aren't for you. However, you'll likely no where near get the same sound quality unless you go up the ladder in price. Nothing touches the sound quality of the PI7s at <$300. Nothing.

Filled with trepidation I pulled the trigger!
I mean, talk about extremes! The Bowers & Wilkins PI7 buds really bring the hyperbole! So there are the yays, “Absolutely best quality music reproduction! True audiophile buds! Bargain at the ask!” etc. Just as extreme, the nays, “What good are they if they won’t (connect, stay connected, reconnect), right side battery dead, left side plenty of power, don’t have a volume control, app can’t see ‘em”! So amid all that glorious uncertainty I’m looking at Amazon’s $299 offer on these $399 B&W (B&W!!!) buds! So I’m ready to go for it when I notice Amazon Marketplace has refurbs that are sold and shipped by Amazon for $225! O jeez, dare I chance that? But wait, there’s more, haha! I know it’s dangerous terrain, but I’m now down in the “used” depths. $200, $170, and holy crud, “used, acceptable” for, get this, $140! Still sold and shipped by Amazon (so no 3rd party headaches and returns are free and no hassle). $140? OMG! for $400 buds? So no kidding, I throw caution and my better judgement to the wind and pull that trigger! Well, I’m listening to Qobuz HQ tunes through my new (old haha) B&W(!) Pl7’s right now. So sweet! I’m hearing new details in music I’ve listened to dozens of times. The H and Q coming right through! I’m saying the sound is wonderful! They arrived in a generic Amazon Marketplace box, but inside they’re packed well for safe travels, and pass my critical inspection with flying colours! Absolutely gorgeous Like New appearance! Now I’m here to demystify all this connectivity bozanga. These buds hate Android and love iOS! It’s that simple. My LG G6 phone gave me all the reported connection issues straightaway. However my iPhones (10 Max and 8) just plain work! So no worries, the iPhone 8 is now my dedicated PI7 jukebox! And Life’s Good! Have I mentioned the SOUND? This is the bargain of my hifi hobby life. Time to share my experience with all you (rightfully) hesitant shoppers out there. If you have an iPhone the B&W Pl7 earbuds get my solid 🤠👍! If you need Android-friendly buds, look elsewhere. (The Cambridge Melomania Touch sounds almost as great and work great with my LG.) But if you’re seeking true audiophile sound in an earbud companion for your iPhone, this is it. As far as Marketplace experiences go, your mileage may vary. Stick with sold and shipped by Amazon and rest easy. Worst case, returns are easy. Whew! Anyway, hope this helps. Happy trails! PS You can connect almost anything that has an audio-out jack to the case, and listen to it using the buds. Analog? Use included 3.5mm plug to USB-C to the charger case. Digital? Laptop? Use the included USB-C to USB-C lead. The charging case is your own private radio station transmitter. So crazy, I hooked up my old AM-FM Cassette box. Listened to my old tapes through these audiophile buds. Fun! Laptop worked great too! It’s like a free DAC thrown into the bargain. Not bad for less than $150.

Don’t buy!!!
Sooo I’m up to my second pair. These are the absolute best in-earbuds I’ve ever heard, hands down, just perfect. I didn’t even have to adjust while at the gym, they were comfortable and secure too. The first pair had the famous connectivity issues and the second the same, only as I had my music app open on my iPhone I noticed it was randomly stopping and starting. Basically the left earbud was malfunctioning and operating by itself. This could have what had been happening with the first but didn’t realize, just thought it was loosing connectivity. This happened after 2 weeks, the other issue happened after 3. For such a wonderful company, their case has a major design flaw too, it’s slippery. Never understood why Sennheiser had cloth and others rubber…now I know. These things will fly out of your hands in seconds and their buds are not durable at all. Also the case randomly snaps close when you’re trying to pair etc…so the case is not the greatest as far as functionality and design either. These sound sooo good that I almost want to buy a third pair but I won’t let myself. It’s back to the functional, reliable 2-year old Sennheiser Momentum’s and my Soundcore Liberty Airs. I’ll definitely be buying the next iteration of these where the fix all these problems but until then I’m holding onto my 400+ dollars. ———————- Ok so this sucker tried again and purchased pair no. 3 (because after you hear them you can’t unhear them and nothing else will do) BUT I experienced the Bluetooth dropping again. They sound soooo good I almost considered keeping them with the drops then drum roll please Bang & Olufsens Beoplay EQ arrived and simply blew these out of the water. 1. They work 2. There’s eq in the app 3. Sound is amazing and a bass heads dream (eq means they also work for non-bass heads) 4. They are significantly louder than the PI7s, I knew they were low but these really showed my by how much 5. Volume control via buds 6. You are talking about excellent customer experience, just download the app to see for yourself. It has EVERYTHING you need including the operating manual (this company really knows how to do software) 7. The case is non slippery and even has a kind of grippable soft bottom 8. Several ear tips including Complys 9. Bluetooth 5.2 I could go on but you get the picture, just like the Pi7s blew my Sennheisers out the water (when I thought they would actually work) these blew the Pi7s out the water. If you want to be satisfied for every penny you spend then I highly suggest you get these instead you’ll thank me later.

Get the Beoplay Ex's. Retire these badboys if you have em'
I went through 2 Pairs of these Earbuds because at the time, they sounded AMAZING and they LOOKED, AMAZING, especially with some Ear Foam tips on that were intended to be used with the PowerBeats Pros I had. I didn't care about the fact that they gave me a bit of Ear Fatigue after just 2 or 3 hours of continuous use. I happily bought these buds two times in a row after I lost them the 1st time at the park (Great find for whatever jogger did that night, as they were in their case, secure and everything!) I remember using the PI7's right after the Sennheiser Buds and I was thinking "Man, how can earbuds that are WIRELESS sound this good and have such an amazing and neat charging case (which clearly ripped SONY's but in a more classy looking way) Sure the case feels kind of cheap, BUT IT looks amazing and I love the LED light that shows when it is charging. I thought, oh man, sure I get 4 Hours of battery life... but with great sound, comes a great price (battery-wise) so screw it lol. Now, onto the Cons... After all the Hype has died down. Cons? Read on Con #1 4 Hours of battery life which really just feels like 3 1/2 Con #2 Lots of Bluetooth cut-off issues (at least with my Iphone 11) I could just be walking and I would get a loss of Signal and my Music would get all Choppy! Con #3 ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, BAREBONES APP that has NO CUSTOMIZATION! Really, it only has some "Soundscapes" which is a small collection of 4 random Ambient sounds like "Waterfall, Lake" etc. that you could simply supplement through YouTube or GrabTube if you want YouTube with Premium Features without paying (just a tip lol) Whoever they have on their Website/App design team needs to be fired and replaced immediately. In the 2 years or so that I owned these Buds, the App was NEVER updated! Con #4 As I said before... THEY HURT YOUR EAR (at least, mine, and for some reason, mainly my left ear) after 3 or-so hours. CON #2,274 They're light, but still heavy enough to not really leave your mind so that's why I say, the weight is a con because, you know they're there, but the weight is OK I guess. This next thing isn't really a CON with this product, but it is definitely a CON to be supporting Bowers & Wilkins any further at this point in their Earbud space anyway. Have you seen their NEXT iteration of this bud? It looks exactly the same with a new color option. There is barely any real hardware improvement that Justifies these people calling it the next version of this (ONCE) Legendary set of buds. Their "Next Version" is the epitome of a Company not giving a F@$K about its consumers. I say, NO! A HARD NO, and it hurts to say that because like I said, I cherished these buds so much at one point. My Advice? After trying Sennheiser's Buds as well? (We all know that Brand makes some Good SHHH) Get the BEOPLAY EX earbuds from Bang & Olufsen. They can go LOUDER than the PI7's. They have a much smother and cleaner Bass response, actually, a BETTER and more bad@$S bass response to be honest. THEY'RE WATERPROOF! (Yes, I can shower with my Earbuds! FINALLY!!!! AND I'VE USED SHAMPOO SO MANY TIMES! IT'S AMAZING!) The Look isn't as cool as the PI7 Earbuds BUT DUDE THEY STILL LOOK SO COOL! They look like a piece of Fashion. They're literally like Earrings for the Ear Canal with the shiny reflective touch control they have (warning, if jumping from PI7's you'll feel weird using the smaller touch controls on the Beoplay Ex's but you'll get used to them within a week!) They don't pop out of the ear canal as much and I can literally wear them ALL DAY LONG and not feel any kind of ache. They feel WEIGHTLESS. I swear! Just... Get... The Beoplay Ex.... When I put them on right after taking my PI7 Earbuds out/offm It was like a whole other beast. For once, I didn't really feel the presence of any earbud in my ear! I looked at my Brother and said "I'm disowning my PI7's because I JUST FOUND THE next BEST PAIR OF BUDS IN EXISTENCE. Sure, it was a little hard for the first week givingup the cool case factor and the little Gold on Black Buds, but daaaaaaaamn that Comfortablility, functionality, AMAZING SOUND, and actually decent battery life made it so easy in the end.

Connectivity issues
First off, I would like to say that I was very anxious to get these new earbuds from Bowers and Wilkins. Especially since when I am traveling, I would be able to use the case as a transmitter to listen to non-bluetooth sources of entertainment; airplane, my classic ipod, etc. However, after using these for a few days, I was sorely disappointed in the product. I admit, the sound coming from these earbuds is incredible but connectivity is so poor, (using Galaxy Flip Z), that I am going back to using my Sennheiser Momentums for now. Frankly, for the price you would spend for these, they would be better with bluetooth connectivity. It took 18 times, (yes, I counted them), to connect to my phone and then they would drop the connection. Or they wouldn't auto-connect, etc. To keep this short here are my pros and cons for these earbuds. Pros: 1) The sound is incredible. No doubt about it. The nuances in the music, especially classical piano, do come through about as good as it can get from wireless. 2) Wireless charging case. 3) Case as a transmitter: I only used this capability once and it worked very well coming from my computer. 4) Fit is good. Not perfect but they do stay in the ear during some strenuous movements. Cons: 1) The app is atrocious. I have to reload the app several times because of crashes. Sometimes it would not connect or when it did, it would not display the battery levels for one or both of the earbuds. 2) Connectivity is awful. These do not auto-connect like my Sennheisers do and these P17 do continuously drop out. I have conversations with others who have told me that the voice starts to fade away after a period of time. 3) No equalizer in the app. For the price, this should be something to consider. 4) The ANC could use a little work but they are not bad. If you are looking for great ANC, probably should stick with the BOSE. I would like to say this, I am an earbud enthusiast. I have AirPod Pros, Sennheiser Momentum 2 (My favorite), Bose Quietcomforts, Technics, Jabras, etc. and the sound quality on the Bowers are really good. But the bluetooth and app aspects were just too frustrating for me to want to carry these and use them every day. Hopefully, Bowers and Wilkins will get some constructive feedback and update their firmware and app software to help with this problem.

The sound quality is out of this world.
Exactly as I expected from reading the other reviews. I’ve been a B&W fan for quite a while now and this is my first pair of buds from them. I’ve had pretty much all the other headphones and my speakers at home are 802 d4s. So you could say I’m well vested with them. I was a little concerned reading the reviews but was 100 percent ready to take a little risk if it was the case….. thankfully it’s not. Yes sometimes they a finicky to pair, Sometimes only one will pair, or they won’t realize I’ve I’ve pulled one out or put one in. Sometimes I need to put them both back in the case and close it, open them back up and push the little button for a full reset. Although this is a little irritating, the positive aspects of these WELL outweigh the maybe one time a week the connection is a little wonky. A Ferrari is going to break down more than a Toyota. Ferraris are a whole lot more exciting thou. I absolutely, 100 precent recommend these. The sounds quality, features, fitment, use ability and all around design quality are awesome. Yes, they are on the higher end for price, everyone also has a different budget. what is $400 worth to someone might not be to another. I bought a “like new” pair for around $175 After having them now for the better part of two months. I can report that they are worth the full price of 399 if you’d rather have a brand new pair. The “like new” pair are absolutely worth it if you don’t mind having a VERY slightly used pair. Only reason I could tell mine weren’t brand new was the seal on the box was cut. Other than that they were new. Everything else was sealed and in perfect shape. I’ll conclude with: If you appreciate VERY high quality audio and don’t freak out when the waiter forgets your ranch dressing one out of 25 times you go out to eat. Absolutely, positively get these. Don’t listen to “Tom” who gave them a one star review bc he had to reset them…..

Will ruin all other headphones
WOW. I'm serious when I say the sound quality on these headphones will ruin all other headphones for you. I've tried the best from Bose, Sony, Samsung, Apple - garbage sound compared to these (both over ear and in ear - beats everything). You will get goosebumps down your spine when you crank your favorite songs. Your mind, body and soul will be transported to a universe of pure musical ecstasy. Songs you've listened to 1000 times will sound new to you; you'll hear things like never before. I'm using an iPhone 12 pro Max, and have had 0 connectivity issues. I'm not sure why other's say they do, but after listening to these for over a week now, I've had 0 dropped connections. I used the case audio retransmitter on a flight, and it worked awesome. No lag in audio. This is a great feature. Battery life - acceptable. But I'm usually not listening to longer than 4 hours at a time, so no biggie. ANC - acceptable. Its not quite Bose or Sony, but its pretty good. You'll be cranking your songs to 11 anyways, so it wont even matter. Fit - awesome. Look - awesome. Case - awesome. Sound - life changing.

Me gustaron muchísimo.

Punchy B&W Sound only MUCH smaller; and in your ear.
The B&W I& headphones arrived this morning and have been in my ears ever since. I'm just in from my evening state mandated exercise and despite getting warm in the May sun. They are IP54 rated so you can get a bit of rain or sweat on them. They remained unmolested in my hears unlike AirPods Pro which need reseating all the time when im exercising... The PI7s have the B&W detailed punchy exciting sound. Its not quite flat but it really is fun. Unlike the AirPods Pro or the Bose version (With the silly long name) these come with bass; its bass forward - not like beats overload - because the rest of the music is bright but there is a bit more bass and it is punchy too. The detail of your music isnt lost though; the soundstage is definitely mostly inside my head but oh the detail. The ominous bass pad sounds in the Expanse theme tune are much more crisp than the Bose headphones I ran it against. My favourite headphone test the Girl from Byakkoya thanks to its brittle harps and dense overlaid sound is very impressive. The best thing about new headphones is going through old favourites and I really like how these sound; after months of hearing them the same way the change makes things feel new. After the sound its worth noting that when I ordered them I was slightly concerned about the fit. B&W have chosen to use the solid silicone style tips; which in the past I have found cause a pressure problem. The PI7's tips are soft and the medium size tip sized perfectly. The good fit adds some passive sound isolation; and helps the ANC which isn't as good as the Bose version. Though unlike any other ANC I have tried it doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference to the playback and there is no hiss. The metal tips of the earbuds let you use gesture controls to skip tracks, answer the phone or summon your assistant. They don't do volume which is a shame. There is an app; and the PI7 are the first headphones in a while that didn't immediately apply an update. The app lets you listen to some calming sounds and that is about it. Callers found the microphones to be a bit quiet. They could hear me and they reportedly did a good job removing the sound of people around me. Bluetooth pairing on an apple at least is a manual affair - the range is pretty good. I was able to walk 10m from my phone and still hear my music without interruptions. The battery life is similar to the AirPods; it lasted 3 hours out of the box and charged up quickly in its (very) plastic charging case. The charging case has a lovely trick for users. You can connect computers or analog auto to it and it will transmit it to your earbuds. The USB cable connected to my Mac and I could stream lossless audio by clicking the button on the caes. Its being sold as a feature for travelling as you can connect it to your seat and relay in the plane audio. Ear buds are better for flying - especially if you are in Business or first as you can sleep with them more easily than a big headset. For flying they didn't include the 2 pin adaptor - that is less an issue on newer planes. The case charges with the USB-C Socket or over QI charging. The design of the headphones is really nice; and it is carried through to the case. Though the case doesn't feel anywhere near as nice as the Bose or Apple versions. For me its about the sound; and I love it. The case's party trick of being a Dac/ transmitter is a really thoughtful design. If the price doesn't put you off these really are excellent.

Good Souding Noise Cancellation ear bud
As expected very nice earphones。 The finishing has a sense of luxury. The sound is refined and detailed. The tonal balance is not skewed. Enjoyed listening jazz as well as classical. Once mastered, connection is easy and convenient.

Best Earbuds on the Market
I received it and the seller is the Amazon UK. Saw some reviews that the buds are not worth the price and when I received it, they were not connecting my phone. But when I read the manual, it said to press the small buttons between the buds and it started working. First impression of sound quality was out of this world. Noise cancellation is super extreme silent. I have XM4 and Bose QC buds but this B&W Pi7 are my favorite. Item is new with plastic wrap as well.
