The Oil Painter's Color Handbook: A Contemporary Guide to Color Mixing, Pigments, Palettes, and Composition

Very useful guide to a successful painting.

Do not buy another book on acrylic painting, this has everything you need to learn colour theory. I was mortified whilst reading a library book copy of Lorena Kloosterboer’s acrylic painting guide and also Gill Barron’s Acrylic Secrets book. Lorena’s book of 2015 is around $300 at time of writing and it’s a complete waste of money and here’s why: Both Barron and Kloosterboer’s books were published by Quarto publishing. I turned to the section on canvas preparation in both of these library books and found replicas of exactly the same photos in Kloosterboer’s 2015 book of a man’s hands preparing a canvas!! It is the same images from Barrons book of 2009. Same photos of paper types in both books too. Luckily I bought this Todd Casey book for $50 and not Kloosterboer’s for $300-$400. So glad I did. This book by Todd Casey is a well written book with thankfully a completely different publisher than Barron & Kloosterboer’s books. Library books saved the day, I’m glad I borrowed the Gill Barron and Lorena Kloosterboer’s books first to reveal a very hairy pair of men’s arms in the canvas stretching section in both books. Love the book content but delivery comes without any form of protective bubble wrap, 2-3 edges are dented and the book doesn't comes with any wrapper and seems like a rejected or return copy. In short no effort is taken to protect the item, hopeless!!!

Very good color book, explains when and how to mix oilcolor for a specific result, well explained and some nice pictures

This is a true 'handbook' and a valuable resource for an aspiring picture maker. It touches on a remarkably wide range of fundamentals, & is filled with practical, clear, concise information, an array of colourful examples, and nuanced insights into a variety of approaches. Highly recommended!

Es un libro muy didáctico y repleto de ejemplos. Es una buena referencia para aprender a usar el color al óleo. Muy metódico y con explicaciones claras.
