I had never heard of Kristin Hannah before stumbling across this book in my Recommendations section - I only bought it because the low price caught my eye and I had a "why not?" moment just before starting maternity leave. Having just read a rather disappointing novel (Bay of Secrets), I started this one a little cynically, thinking it was going to be a cheesy American read. How wrong I was! Right from the start, the book draws you in - I found it very hard to put down. The characters are raw and believable. Ms Hannah does a fantastic job of showing them warts-and-all, and from different people's points of view, which I thought was excellent and made it that much easier to empathise and like all the characters, even those who would ordinarily be extremely unlikeable / irritating. The storyline is great, with some twists. In fact, such was its unpredictability at times (which kept me interested throughout), that I was desperately hoping that the act of 'betrayal' mentioned in the blurb wasn't what I thought it was, as that would have been too easy for the author, and knocked a star off the overall rating. Well, as you can see from my rating of the book, even the betrayal wasn't what I was expecting. Which pretty much sums up this book. The style of writing and the continuous dialogue means the book flows perfectly and is easy to read. I found the conversations between the characters, whilst not laugh out loud funny, to be witty and amusing. I'm baffled by the reviews that say this was hard to get into - if anything, the story moved almost TOO quickly at times. The ending was both brilliant and moving in equal measures. There are wet splotches all over the last 100 pages or so where I cried my eyes out - and by the time I'd finished the book my bed was littered with crumpled up tissues. It is testimony to the author's fantastic writing, as it's rare for a book to affect me in this way. I was thrilled to find out there is a sequel to this book, which I have ordered today. Firefly Lane may be the first book I've read by Kristin Hannah, but it won't be my last. I would 100% recommend this book.

Kristin HannahさんのNight Roadがあまりにも面白かったのでアマゾンで取り寄せました。 この人は本当に悲しいストーリーを書くのが好きですね。 「育児放棄された女の子」と「育ちのいい女の子」が高校時代に出逢い、そこから大親友として二人で人生を共に過ごしていきます。キャリアをとるか、家庭をとるか、そのような二人の葛藤がお互いを傷つけあいながら、そして励まし合いながらストーリーが展開していきます。 ただ、Night Roadと比べると、明らかにドキドキ度、せつなさ度がおとります。 どうも登場人物を好きになることが出来ませんでした。 478ページとなかなかのボリュームがありますが、話が面白くなってきたのは最後の１００ページくらいです。 Night Roadを読むことを強くお勧めします。

The book reads just like the Netflix series and the characters come to life. A great read that is warm, funny and real, which makes the story very relatable.

Lo compre tras ver la serie y segun voy leyendo veo en mi cabeza las escenas nitidas. Es como ver una y otra vez la serie, solo en mi cabeza, acompañandome en mis viajes o mis momentos de relax. Lo compre en ingles ademas para aprender mas vocabulario y tambien por ahi me esta sirviendo. Su precio y tamaño bolsillo me parecen tambuen lo mejor. Ya estoy pensando en algun cumple donde crea q la persona pueda disfrutarlo tanto como yo. Es un regalo de historia, por fin una historia de amistad bonita y duradera entre dos mujeres y no tanra rivalidad, celos y crueldad que se han mostrado tanto en pelis y series, especialmente, mientras yo fui joven (de 2000 a 2015 aprox)
