Great Photoelectric Smoke Alarm!
We bought these because the ionization smoke alarms we had in our house kept tripping from our ultrasonic humidifiers. I'm not a professional, but I've read that combination ones (alarms that have photoelectric and ionization sensors) are made to be less sensitive due to false alarms, so I'd rather have dedicated photoelectric smoke alarms mixed with dedicated ionization alarms in the house. these went in our bedrooms (where we have our humidifiers) and we kept ionization alarms in there rest of the house. The install was super simple; the wiring harness is included for each so it was simply a matter of disconnecting the old ones and wiring in the new ones (don't forget to kill power to them to prevent getting zapped!) Overall I'd recommend these if you are looking for a photoelectric smoke alarm and need to purchase new or replace your old ones!

You can use your oven again!
I ordered these because all of my smoke detectors would blare on-and-off EVERY time I made bacon. (Which is often). I need my bacon-making process to be as joyous as I am when I eat it. These smoke detectors made my dream come true.

GET A MIX OF TYPES
We replaced all the smoke detectors, due to age, which was close to the 10 year recommendation. Current recommendations from the experts is to get a mix of ionization and photoelectric. The ionization models alert faster to flaming fires, while photoelectric respond much quicker to fires in the smouldering stage. These photoelectrics were installed inside the bedrooms. We also purchased 3 combination ionization and carbon monoxide detectors for the hallways outside the bedrooms and near the door out to the garage. We ended up with a total of 7 detectors, all BRK / First Alert. If your detectors are hard wired, DO NOT mix them from different manufacturers, as they usually WILL NOT work well together. Over all, we are very happy with these BRK / First Alert detectors. The only annoyance was that out of the 7 detectors, 3 had back-up batteries that were chirping due to a low charge. And another was dead. These did cost a little more than the cheapo junk on the market, BUT the lives of you and your family are worth a few more bucks. The combination detectors we used are the First Alert BRK SC9120B, also on Amazon.

Awesome product, awesome price
Love these! I just bought a home and there were very old, yellow smoke detectors. Bought these for an amazing price, easy to install, and look great!

False Alarms Galore
I replaced my 10 year old detectors with these new ones as it was recommended that they be replaced in 10 year intervals. Since the first month I had them, they would go off at random times for no reason at all. Many times in the middle of the night. I requested a refund which was immediately refuted by the seller. After much back and forth the seller convinced me that there was possibly something wrong with the wiring in the house. Since the units are all wired together so when one is triggered they all go off together, I thought there might be some validity to this claim. The units have behaved for the most part now for almost a year. Last night they all went off at 2AM and again, there was no reason they should have. No smoke in the house, no change in atmospheric pressure, no wind in the house...all windows closed. No drastic change in temperature... In retrospect the units that I removed never gave me a bit of trouble. So sorry I picked these units... the false alarms are driving us all crazy and if there ever is a fire, I wonder if any of us will believe the smoke detectors when they go off.

Intense green LED light is lit constantly
This smoke detector was easy to install to replace some previous BRK models and a Kidde (which required flipping the breaker and swapping out the hard-wired connector). Luckily, I haven't needed to test them with an actual fire, but I was disappointed to discover that these have a green LED that is constantly illuminated, rather than flashing once per minute to show that the alarm is still working. There is actually a separate red or orange LED that does that, so the green LED just shows that there is power. In a dark room, this projects a green spot on the floor, which is actually surrounded by a green ring too, though I don't know if that's just from the geometry of the case or reflecting off the plastic immediately around the LED. Since the green LED is constantly lit, you can see green light leaking out through the cracks and seams on the entire detector. I am going to try to cover the lights, but it won't be possible to stop this light leakage. Anyway, this is all pretty disappointing for a device that should be completely unobtrusive when not needed. I would recommend trying a different model instead of this one.

I recommend.
We replaced all of our smoke detectors with this particular brand/style. They work very well. The others were activated any time the wind blew dust around, much too sensitive to dirt in the air rather than smoke. I recommend.
