Hayward SP0710XR50 Pro-Series Vari-Flo Backwash Valve Coupling

This valve is identical to my original which lasted 11 solid years of year-round operation. Genuine OEM Hayward product, Amazon came through with the best price on the market. After ordering the valve Tuesday afternoon, I checked the status online just to see if it had shipped, and the UPS tracker says, Delivered: Left on Front Porch. I looked, and yes it was already there on Thursday. Reminded me of Wile Coyote ordering from Acme Co. to catch that Roadrunner; that fast. Unfortunately, the packing was lacking and the siteglass was shattered. I took pictures, and emailed Amazon immediately. They responded immediately with an apology and instructions on how to return the damaged valve and that a new valve would be on the way, immediately. UPS came by the NEXT day and picked up the damaged valve. No questions asked; the UPS man had the label and off they went. The new valve arrived in 2 days. Took me a little while to install, getting all the piping lined up and level. The DE Filter tank had settled over the years so I ended up installing the valve with the piping first, then disassemble the DE filter and cleaned it while I had it apart. I then attached the bottom section of tank to the valve since it was easier to handle than the entire filter. I was able to leveled the filter properly, then reassemble the entire filter. I let the valve and new PVC piping and silicone cure for 24hrs before running the system. The new valve is so much easier to operate. It works great and no leaks. Should be good for another 11 years. I originally bought a gasket kit to rebuild my Hayward valve. But when I got it all back together I had a leak I couldn't stop. I believe it was due to the amount of pressure it took to put the handle back on. After that I saw this complete replacement valve. I bought a couple of unions to go with it and a tube of Magic lube. It was very easy to swap the whole thing out and it worked great. I wish I would have bought it to start with.

Tremendous value and replacement

Found this valve for a GREAT price on amazon. Much less expensive that my local pool supply which was charging almost double. However, I finally installed this valve along with my new filtration system. While it’s a pretty straight forward install.. It is very time consuming and you don’t know if the item is defective or not until it’s fully installed. In my case.. I bought all of the fittings, the piping, made all my measurements and cuts.. Got everything installed, turned my unit on... and much to my dismay.. the valve is leaking!!! Not only did I waste hours doing this but I will have to try to exchange this unit, wait for it AND repurchase all of the fittings I wasted on this deductive unit!! This is a huge inconvenience. For this reason, I am rating this one star. I will update my review if need be based on how this situation is handled.

Purchased to replace my old unit. Was a simple install for my Pool company. The handle rotates smoothly but wont lock in to the notches bc I think the spring is missing or has no tension. Send in the swim and message through their website and hope to hear back. I purchased the original manufacturer part to avoid a problem. I paid the pool company for install. Hoping I hear back from in the swim.

I couldn't believe the difference in price compared to my local pool supply. This valve was a genuine Hayward valve the same as the one I had for 22 years. Arrived on time as promised and works great, even had the spoke gasket with it. A suggestion for installing is to first connect it to the filter, then connect the pvc pipes one at a time. Threaded pieces first, start with the angled pipe if you have one.Connect the threaded pipe making 3 to 4 turns around it with tyflon plumbers tape.It will fit snug, make sure to screw it in all the way. Clean pvc with pvc cleaner and put pvc cement on first one with the angled pipe if you have one make a good connection,and complete that pipe. Then connect the straight pvc pipe repeating the tyflon tape, cleaning and cement.Pvc part that screws into the valve will need 3 to 4 times around it with the tyflon tape(very important step). Hack saw works great for cutting the old pipe. All I had to buy was two pvc coupling connectors for connecting the pvc back together. Leave enough room on either side of the cut to reconnect. This was not a hard project and saved be a couple of hundred dollars. Take your time clean all connections to filter of any sand, dry everything off. You can do it, or ask a handy friend to help. Glad I did it!

This item works as expected, it installed easily

I received my first Hayward SP0710xR50 Pro-Series Vari-Flo Vale fast and I installed it. When I turned on the pump, water shot out the side slowly and then in a torrent, virtually destroying the valve. I quickly contacted Amazon and they replaced the valve with an overnight shipment. The second installation worked perfectly. The valve is very smooth in operation. No leaks or surprises this time. Both valves did arrive in a cardboard box with absolutely no packing of any kind. I speculate that this may have caused the problem with the first valve. In any case, the valve meets or exceeds my expectations. It replaced another valve just like it that lasted 20 years. Good Hayward quality! Do not over tighten. snug plus 1 and 1/2 turns. Use silicon sealant in the bottom of each inlet and thread sealant for PVC on the threads. Make sure the valve is full of water before starting the pump and pray it wasn't cracked during shipping.
