Regular Expression Pocket Reference: Regular Expressions for Perl, Ruby, PHP, Python, C, Java and .NET (Pocket Reference (O'Reilly)) Review: The one book I leave on my desk! - I have used this book as my Regex bible religiously since it's release. I know everything contained within is found on the Internet, but this does a tremendous job of putting it in a simple format, with decent examples. I also like how I can reference other language implementations so easily. Maybe it's because it is the format I have always been used to, but this little handy pocket reference is the only reference book that lives permanently on my desk. And yes, I am a fan of using Regular Expressions when it's appropriate. Pick the right tool for the job! Review: I love these little books - great for travelling! - The content is new enough - take these with me on long trips for the engagement.

The one book I leave on my desk!
I have used this book as my Regex bible religiously since it's release. The most useful of all pocket references
Do you swap languages to often and don't remember exactly how to do regex? This is the book! Very useful. Just go to the language section, see the symbol table an go to the example and you're done. This is by far my most used book. The only thing that it needs is a section for javascript. I hope that it will be added in a next edition.

it is REMARKABLE! the difference between how large i assumed it to be and the actual size it ended up being.. ill leave that surprise for you. i actually already had this book on the pyuder. it was booty from a trip to the seas. but i wanted somethubg to write on and it was like 10$ or something… so why not..

Good basics but really out of date
It's a great book for folks new to RE, but it's really dated. Apparently there isn't a newer version. This is NOT the fault of the vendor, I didn't do due diligence in determining how old the edition was. Still, a good book. Also note: Covers the REs for SEVERAL languages, so in reality, your language (Python, for example) may only represent 10 pages or so in teh entire book.

At work, the most useful book I have
Regular expressions are often viewed as one of the most cryptic subjects in programming or systems administration. Getting the basics down is easy, but when you're working in multiple environments all the time, using three different regex flavors, having a simple reference like this one is invaluable. Here's the real kicker: it's quicker and easier for me to Google search almost anything programming related EXCEPT FOR regular expressions. Say I can never remember if Vim wants \d or \D for digits. Sure, I could just use [0-9], but I want to make the best use of my tools, so I pick up my Regular Expressions Pocket Reference and after two page flips have my answer. I got mine used for $5, it was so so so worth it.

Regular Expression Pocket Reference -- I use this as a quick look up guide for regular expressions. A nice companion to the full sized book.
